Seems to me I made a similar type post on another forum The OP was torn between a T/C Venture and a Rem 788. Leave the kids at home on the next vacation, sell a kidney, ect but buy the 788. Nothing against T/C but 788's are scarce in some calibers. sorry of the subject. Impatently wait for my Garand. deadeye

Yes 1k, I will.

That order was to primarily to get a bunch of clips and get a feel for the rifle. I will probably order up a few more cans of the loose ammo and then start reloading the cases.

Just do like I did....Go to the store in person. No shipping time and no shipping fees. Plus you get to hand select your rifle.

Me on the right...Leon (Armorer) in the center and Geneseo (THR member) on the left.:D

That's the guy that helped me pick out mine!

I believe he said "This one's a keeper!", and it shoots like a dream with that Greek HXP!

I just heard back from CS at the southern store: As of 3/4 they are entering mail that was received on 2/22 (I mailed my papers on 2/23) and I should receive an email once my order is entered.

So I guess I just need to calm down a bit and let them do their job:eek:

I wish I had the time to make the trip to the store. From the Philadelphia area it's a bit of a hike but I might be able to take the kids as a fun Summer road trip for the next set of rifles:D

Thanks for the info steven58. I also mailed mine on the 2-23rd (I know I said 10 days in my previous post. so I can't count). Anyway based on your numbers I don't expect any e-mail till at least late next week or the week after.

sappnasty that must be an awesome experience to hand pick your own rifles with the help of the knowlagable staff at the CMP. I would have to think Leon has a few pristine M-1's in his safe. Thanks for the pic, looks cool.

OK, MY CMP Service Grade Springfield Special arrived TODAY, and it's BEAUTIFUL!

Muzzle 1+, Throat 2+, S/N 58XXXXX

It'll need an application of tung oil to finish it (after the first range trip of course - I'm still waiting on the ammo to arrive).

I'm looking forward to a road trip to Camp Perry this summer so I can hand pick another service grade to go with it.
I'm thrilled! :)

Not sure how to post pics here but I will when I figure it out.

Not fair to tease us people awaiting our orders, lol. I hope that I'm as excited as you when mine arrives. Pics would be great to see what the current shipped rifles look like. thx deadeye.

Here's my service grade.. Its a beautiful 1954 springfield service grade. I asked for nice metal and a new CMP birch stock and they delivered big time! Had a muzzle wear of 1 and throat erosion of 2. Brand new rifle!

How do you request nice metal and new wood?

I just stuck a post it on top of my paperwork that I sent in. And if you didn't do that with your first order, don't worry you'll get another chance. These rifle have a tendency to multiply. ;)

I wonder if when my order gets entered I can call and ask politley if someone there would mind adding one to my paperwork?

Give the customer service people at CMP a phone call. They are really nice people, and you have nothing to lose.

Attached are the pics of my Springfield Service Grade Special.

I too included the customary request for the best H&R shooter and the best looking. Don't ask for much do I. From what I've read I believe the folks at CMP will send you the best of the best at the time of shipment unless you have a specific item you want. Impaitently waiting deadeye.

Beautiful rifles guys!!! I especially love the grain in your stock Double Vision...SWEET! We should all arrange a big Garand meeting sometime. Find a nice range about in the middle of all of us and have a huge shooting fest! That would be awesome.

OUTSTANDING was to busy typing to look at the thread. Is that out of the case or did you do some clean up,original wood? Looks awesome. Now really impatiently waiting deadeye.

The stock on mine is new walnut from the CMP, hence the Service Grade Special. Pricier yes, but I didn't have the luxury of making the road trip to the CMP to hand pick one... yet.

Since my ammo hasn't shipped yet I rubbed it down with a coat of tung oil, after I took the pics. It really brings the wood to life.
I figure I got lucky with the muzzle & throat measurements. I can't wait to shoot it!

Doublevision I broke down and ordered me a walnut cmp stock for my garand as well. I want it to match my springfield M1A. Can't beat walnut! Nice looking rifle..

Can't beat walnut!

As a general rule I would agree with you. But I'm very happy with the Birch replacement I got from the CMP a year ago.

But you're right Walnut does look good too. 1943 Underwood.

I'm really lucky my club has a 600 yard range to find out what these old rifles are capable of. It's going to open up a whole new type of shooting for you. I really enjoy the historical aspect also.

I got one of those 3...the other 2 I plan to get within the next year. It's just too bad you can't get the 1903 and carbine through CMP anymore.
