To start my Sunday (Jan 25, 2009) morning off, I was flipping news channels and CCN headline news reported that Miami Mayor Manuel Diaz call for another assault rifle ban, after this weeks shootings in Miami. Maybe he should ban lowlife criminals? Diaz said he had spoken to Joe Biden and there would be another ban. CNN announced it like the pending Olympics were months away. The Biden comment seems to only be in the video...

I just got off of work (I work nights), and the first thing that I did was sit down and read this post. I watched the video from the link because I wanted to hear the Biden remark. For the first time since he was elected, I actually felt a real fear. Kind of like a "here and now" type of fear. I think within the next couple of months, we will see some type of gun law legislation being pushed. And the "Dems" have the House, Senate, and Presidancy. Fellas, we are going to have a rough four (very possibly, eight) years.

It is weird how what I was fearing, is now a reality that I am going to have to deal with.

I had a good day too, damn.

Time for reasonable e-mails, letters, phone calls, and, yes, more monetary support to the 2A freedom fighters of your choice.

So statistically, AR violence just went from .1% to .11% in the past twenty years (correct me if my numbers are wrong.) Yeah, we have to get those evil guns off the street. Loss of life is always sad, but some of them were already DOA. What is a sixteen year old doing shooting craps on the corner? What a pitiful waste of human potential. Flame me if you want, but that is completely and utterly sad.

Great fellas, it looks like what we have been worried about for the past several months is coming to fruition.

Heck of a way to start Sunday morning. Echo John's comments. Pick your 2A org and support them.

Well, I think that most of us have supported the NRA and a few others for quite some time now, but I haven't seen much coming from any of them in the way of helping this situation. I know that they are pretty much the most powerful lobbyist that we have for our current situation and I know the Big Brother doesn't like dealing with them all that much either. However, I haven't seen much action from them in a while. Perhaps I am missing something but I am just telling it how it is from what I see.

**Maybe we should start a list of state senators that support our 2A rights and make a thread on it here. That way it will be easier for people to know who to write, etc. if that makes any sense. Just a thought. Maybe even show an example of one of your arguments to the senator in question as to why you should have this right.**

A list is the first step...

a friendly "pink slip" reminder for .gov employees who vote for another AWB would be a neat reminder too, especially if the pink slip had a quote from Bill Clinton on how the D's lost seats in 94 over the same issue.

    I'll ask again....

WHERE are those THR members who repeatedly argued that this administration "has more things to worry about?"

Although I never argued the point, I'm one who thinks the .gov does have more important things to worry about at the moment. Does this mean that trying for an AWB in the future not going to happen? Probably will try - but not tomorrow.

Clinton's AWB didn't happen until '94 - 2 years into his term (and was started during the final year of Bush #41). The violent crime rate was higher then; people didn't feel as safe from crime as they do today (note that crime was not an issue for either candidate in this past election).

Now is the time to remind our elected officials about 2A, RKBA, Heller, etc. and that criminals are the problem - not the devices they use (when was the last time you heard talk about banning cars because of some drive-by shooting?). Also, Biden is no Dick Cheney - he may be very powerful and influencial, but he's better known for foriegn policy than domestic, and BHO is calling the shots (sorry - no pun intended!)

And while you are at it, keep the email/snail mail addresses of the major news outlets on hand as well; it might be worth the time to contact them when a negative firearms story/editoial is broadcast, letting them know (nicely!) that the vast majority of gun owners are legal, responsible law-abiding citizens.

    I'm a little confused, I guess.

Recently, I've heard a lot of THR members disparaging gun/ammo retailers for things like "price gouging" and using "fear over another AWB" in order to sell ammo and guns. Some THR members have complained about ammo and gun shortages due to "panic buying" because people have fears of another AWB.

Not saying it's the same members who have posted in this thread. But it's kinda funny how maybe some opinions are starting to change. I'm really curious how many THR members who will complain about a sure-to-come AWB voted for O/B?

I don't like the recent prices and shortages either. But I understand them. And if the remarks by the Miami mayor and police chief don't make you understand, too, nothing will.

How quickly some seem to forget, or to be fair maybe they weren't around for, the Clinton AWB. The next one will be lots worse.

And it doesn't surprise me that the mayor and police chief mentioned how those evil weapons need to be taken off the streets. Maybe I missed it but I don't recall either one of them saying the criminals need to be taken off the streets. It's as if they are actually stupid enough to believe crime will go away if only there were no evil AK-47s.

Yeah, I really see the VP and Prez taking time out of their leisure filled first week in office with a tanking economy, to make binding national policy statements to some piss ant mayor in Florida.

The president is having difficulty in getting his own party members to pass the economic plan and he's going to focus on this?

Perspective people, that means know the opposition and be aware, don't go Chicken Little every time some mouthy politician aims for a sound bite as opposed to actions.

OK, I am serious when I ask WHERE WERE THE COPS? Had they arrested these folks for playing craps BEFORE then no one would have been shot.

Gentleman, let's keep this thread on track. Between politics and a bizarre post blaming the cops for not arresting the victims to prevent this tragedy, this one is heading for someplace unpleasant. I've cleaned things up instead of closing it since this is an pretty hot topic. Let's stay on the high road.

Have you noticed the media focusing on ASSAULT weapons more and more for the past 3 - 4 months? They are trying the same brainwash tactics that they did last time.

It is a legitimate question. I wasn't blaming the cops, I was changing the emphasis of the argument.

I've noticed that too - any crime involving a firearm now gets national attention. That's why we need to be more pro-active.

Yes, but this is the federal government. They had more important things to do than close Gauntanamo too, but that didn't stop them.

Yes, because this will win the support of his party and a few RINOs. We need to tell the pro-gun Democrats to grow a spine and tell Obama they don't want such a ban.

    It's delegated...

"Yeah, I really see the VP and Prez taking time out of their leisure filled first week in office with a tanking economy, to make binding national policy statements to some piss ant mayor in Florida."

They delegate it to the staff ro work with a congressman to draft the proposal/legislation. Yes, they are in favor of it. Yes, they have time to sign it when it's passed. It's not a matter of being too busy or not personally.

President Obama has already done some political payback with Gitmo, Abortion funding etc. and we do realize this has always been a top Democratic issue.

what is even more disturbing, is that I've noticed that alot more articles state that the firearms and ammo were "unregistered" :barf: in places where there is no registration :uhoh: yet... call me paranoid but that is what I am most concerned about
