Might be a topic of another thread, likely has been one in the past but is 15 firearms and a 1000 rounds considered “a lot”, “stockpile”, “arsenal”, “weapons cache” or a “starter collection”?

Let’s say “more than 1000 rounds” = 1500 rounds. That’s 100 rounds per gun. I would consider myself “out” of ammunition if that’s all I had. Not enough for a fun day with the two semiauto .22’s, or finish a match with some of the other rifles/pistols.

Facts regarding his intent should be paramount.

If it’s just possession that makes one evil, military and LEO would be the most evil people in this country and that is simply not the case at all.

one guy with a lot of guns.
A few guns.

Moron likely wrote or researched stuff on the net that ran up a red flag. Has the media blown it up to make gun owners look bad. Well duh, that's what they do.

Is he a bad guy? Sounds like it, but the jury is out, and yes, if he doesn't act on his hatred of someone, he hasn't committed a crime.

The antis, with many willing media talking heads, take every chance they can to make gun owners look bad, and they took this chance to do so. They want average john and jane doe to be afraid of gun owners, and stuff like this idiot plays right into their hands.

Too bad they don't do airtime to gun owners doing legal, fun, things, and even using guns to protect innocent people from bad people like honest journalists, but that doesn't fit with the agenda of the antis and a large part of the media.

Unfortunately every idiot with a gun is going to get airtime.

Those of you questioning his shooting training are apparently not aware that he was 15 years a Marine. Or at least that is what I heard on the news today. You decide.

I agree that his cache of weapons and ammo was not extreme by any means. Many, many completely law abiding individuals keep more of one or both, myself included. However, the deafening silence from the right wing regarding his alleged plot is extremely disconcerting. You all know how different the situation would be if he were far to the left like the Congressional baseball practice shooter or if, even worse, he were an immigrant. The stage has been left to the liberal media. Conservatives, including the President, have been totally silent. The right balance of thought is often achieved by an averaging of two extremes. In this case only one side has been represented. Why is that?

Good point. I wonder about that myself. Instead they seem fixated on that turd Jesse Smollett. Go figure.

If the news reports are correct, this guy was a pretty rotten fellow. Skinhead for 30 years, self-proclaimed white supremacist, seeking a white homeland, and wishing death upon anyone who wasn't of his tribe.

That is, if the reports are correct, which if they are he should be labelled for what he is, and should be roundly condemned by all. Forget about the weapons, they are just peripheral to this disgusting system of hatred.

I can't imagine somebody that was that vocal of a white supremacist being able to make a career in the Coast Guard. He would have been passed over for promotion and very likely RCP'd very early in his career

Am I the only one who saw the news story and thought "false flag"? Anything's possible, but when dumb TV actors pay buddies to assault them to make political points, this is the perfect smear against what the media wants us to think is the typical Trump supporter. It's just too easy. Then there's the timing relative to the TV actor's stunt.

Not everything is a conspiracy. I'm perfectly satisfied now that these are unrelated incidents. More information may show otherwise, but we don't have any indication of that at this time. There will be plenty of time and opportunity to learn different information. We don't have to imagine it.

Absolutely John R, that story stunk from day one. Living near and working in Chitown, I can tell you there are not many Trump fans where he claims it happened, and certainly not at the hour it allegedly occurred. Total BS. And a waste of CPD resources that could have been pursuing legitimate crimes. Hope they throw the book at him.

Well, he started out for 5 years (not 15 as I said earlier) as a Marine. And he only rose to Lt. (like Army Captain). So he hasn't been all that successful. Maybe the CG doesn't kick out the stagnant like the Navy does.

i would like to know how they found out about this guy and the probable cause (pc) they used to get a search warrant/arrest warrant. per the news it sounds that they used what he said on the net to conduct their investigation and the"pc" for the warrants. if this is going to be the standard then we all are under the micro scope for being a member of a gun related forum.
Personally I don't have a problem with someone raising a red flag if they are seeing threats or the intention to do harm posted on the internet. I have no doubt that the government has programmers writing code to scan social media pages for key phrases. In fact I have heard stories of text messages setting off a pre programmed alert because it involved Michelle Obama's name at a time when she was visiting a particular community. (Privacy violation in my opinion) When you think about it, posting anything publicly on the internet is like standing on a chair in a full auditorium and shouting something at the top of your lungs. If someone yelled out "I hate and want to kill (insert racial, sexual, religious, or social group of your choosing)." you can bet security and the local police are going to pay attention and have a talk with that person.

However, freedom of speech and issuing threats have always been a gray area when lawyers are involved, and locking someone up before a crime is committed is a slippery slope.

I really believe the bottom line is that if you participate on this forum in a public setting, the government knows who you are, what types of guns you own, and whether or not you are a potential threat. However, since nearly everyone on THR is a law abiding citizen and hobbyist, exercising their rights, I don't really care if they know. If things ever go to hell, and confiscation occurs, I'm guessing between social media, purchase records, and most likely a whole host of ways, the federal government knows a lot more about us and our gun inventory than any of us would care for.

If you have a cell phone, I wouldn't assume anything you say or do is secret really. We are all carrying GPS trackers in our pockets, and conducting personal business on devices that can be used against us.

Ok, taking my tinfoil hat off now.

Personally I have about the same number of guns but probably around 4000 to 5000 rounds of ammo between factory ammo and what I've loaded myself. But I'm no more a threat to people around me than Mr. Rogers was. I figure the human race is speeding towards destruction through environmental degradation. Violence on anyone's part is redundant.

How much ammunition can one terrorist be expected to expend prior to being taken down?

The terrorist aspect isn't salient per se, but a shooter can fire hundreds of rounds before the spree ends, assuming he is prepared.

This ground level, not particularly prepared shooter managed 212 rounds in the middle of Houston...

This guy showed up in Houston a few months later with more ammo, but only expended about 75 rounds

Las Vegas shooter fired more than 1100 rounds

Norway shooter had more than an hour's time to shoot people, no round count, but he killed 69 on the island and wounded many more.

Charlie Whitman had 90 minutes or so. He could have shot a lot more rounds, but he was slow and methodical.

That was actually my very first thought.

The lefties have been slavering for a "right wing nut" to use against the lawful gun community for a long time. And, they have been disappointed at every turn, too.

But, given that the newsies cannot be relied upon to get the compas direction of the sunrise correct, I have to take even my own first impressions with a grain of salt. It simply will not occur to them to go do a records search, especially when they can sell more words by breathlessly repeating twitter gossip.

The Coast Guard actually is pretty good at separating under-performing folks. And it's also very selective in the members it brings over from other services. I know of two Army O-3's who transferred to the Coast Guard and were only able to qualify for E-5. I served with one "Recovering Marine" who transferred as a pilot and had to give up two officer ranks to transition.

As I understand his rank history from Coast Guard sites that I belong to, he initially served as a Marine, then National Guard, and then to the Coast Guard as an E-3, subsequently rose to E-8 and then was appointed as a Warrant Officer and rose to CWO2. The Coast Guard provides an accession path from CWO to LT. LT Hasson is pretty much with his peer CWO - LT members in terms of age and time in service.

I'm not condoning his alleged actions, but it's quite incorrect to infer substandard military performance from his age and rank.

Too complicated for me. I was just trying to explain how he might have hung around with a bad attitude. Maybe just the fact that he has been in three services is the clue to a problem. Maybe not.

Are you not embarrassed to spew such a baseless diatribe when it clearly appears to all concerned that you were wrong? It does not appear to be a false flag. I will not comment on his guilt or innocence of which I know nothing. But the US Attorney, not necessarily a “slavering leftie”, thinks he has a case. Our respect for the law enforcement and judicial processes should lead us to keep our mouths shut, and our eyes, ears, and minds open.

You must remember that the News is not to inform you. The News has two goals. #1 Their agenda #2 sale air time.
His list of targets, Dem party leaders and liberal newscasters and reporters. They want him to look like an evil gun owner that hates liberals.
When in truth, most mass shootings are committed by liberals.

Just thank what the story would sound like if they came after me or you.

Maybe I'm missing something here. But if the average Joe/Jane, receives threat(s) from an individual, the LE can't do much about it, if a law hasn't been broken.
But if money/power feels a threat, well...all bets are off.
I could be totally off base, but that is just me being curious.

I don’t know whether your assertions are correct or not, but we aren’t talking about most mass shootings. We are talking g about a specific threat. This case. This example.
