Coat Holster for Concealed Carry

I would like to get the perspective of the group here. We have developed a holster that clips to the inside of your coat, vest or other garments with inside pockets. We have filed a patent on the product and are currently Patent Pending, but we would like to get a feel for the demand with this product. It does not clip to your coat but uses powerful magnets to pinch the pocket minimizing wear on your garments.

Would love to hear back from everyone. Keep in mind our holsters are Lifetime warranty.

I have several concerns. 1- the weight of any handgun is going to start to pull on the lining of any coat or jacket, sooner or later. I would hate to have the lining of an expensive blazer or coat damaged by this.

2- your warning about the magnets. This would really scare me off. Why take a chance on having my or someone else's property damaged by accident. Would I be libel if I damaged someones pacemaker?

3- At $80.00 I would have to think long and hard about buying a brand new holster design.

I too have a hard time believing that any inside pocket could support the weight...for long.

My concern is that the gun is not actively attached to the garment but is just being held in place by the magnets.
If you happen to get into a situation where the holster is jostled or "wiped" off the magnets, you could essentially drop your CCW right out the bottom of your coat......not good.

As much as magnets work well for some appilcations (Readerrest), I can't see trusting even a rare earth magnet to keep my gun in place.
Anybody who as accidentally snagged their CCW on a seatbelt, folding chair, table, etc...knows what I am talking about.

I agree with the concerns about the weight. I know I wouldn't want that thing hanging off the pocket of one of my sport coats or suit jackets. Not just for wear and tear on the pocket itself but how it's going to look on the outside.

Having tried inside-coat holsters, my experience is that the weight causes the coat to open, sag, and otherwise not wear correctly with any but the lightest guns (which are better served with sewn-in loops for gun clips). That could be corrected but at some point you may as well have a shoulder holster under your coat.

Hmmm. I wear a suit most days and a jacket almost all other days, so I'm definitely interested in anything that makes such carry more effective. Breast pocket carry usually works pretty well, but is imperfect in terms of speed of draw. I agree with the post above that a shoulder holster may be a better option than a holster that clips, by whatever method, to a jacket pocket. But I'm open to persuasion. Then again, the entry fee is steep.

Yep, what oldbear and ed Ames said. I have two vests with carry pockets in then and the weight of the gun causes that side of the garment to noticeably sag. Unless you're wearing a motorcycle weight leather jacket the gun is going to affect the drape of the jacket and obviously print

These are all great comments from everyone. I would like to first add some feedback to some of the comments...

Magnet Warning - please understand that these magnets are strong and in fact the manufacturer applies similar warnings, unfortunately in todays day in age of a sue happy country if you don't cover yourself then you might get sued.

AS for the size of the gun I agree this is not to be a 1911 or er Sig 226, it is designed for lighter guns and providing flexibility. If you buy a coat with a holster sown in you are looking at $89 up to and including $150. now you can have some flexibility. I have worn it in a suit coat and yes it tugs some just as your wallet would. But it offers a solution to only having one coat, coat weight and color.

Again just giving some flexibility to a problem that seems to not have a solution other than paying alot to buy custom made coats.

I do appreciate everyones review and will try to present more information going forward. If anyone has suggestions or other comments please share.

I give you an A for thinking outside the box.

I see several drawbacks to your product.

1. I do not believe it is suitable for business attire.
a. Business suit coat & sport coat the weight of the will cause the coat to hang unevenly.
b. There will be a noticeable bulge on the chest when the suit / sport coat is buttoned.
c. Businessmen and Professionals take lot of pride in their appearance so a & b will be big objections to them.

2. As previously discussed the weight will cause light weight jackets in cool climates to sag .

3. To avoid sagging a heavier weight fabric such as leather will need to be used. Heavier weight materials are warmer thus making it suitable for wear in colder temperatures only.

4. It is a seasonal wear item (wintertime).

5. When the wearer takes his coat off such as being indoors he is;
a.separated from easy access to his gun.
b. has to figured how and where to secure his coat.

6. To avoid/minimize sagging a smaller lighter weight gun is needed which can also be easily concealed elsewhere on the body.

Thank you everyone for these great comments and feedback. I would like to say I have worn this holster on a suit for business and using a smaller handgun it wore well, It did tug slightly on my coat, however I was the only one that noticed.

I agree if they take there coat off you are separated from your gun. The thought here was those that are out in the winter and don't want to fight to reach under their coat.

Please keep in mind this is an established market where you can buy a coat with a holster sown in it. but you are then stuck with one coat and color. This is designed to give you flexibility.

You can buy a vest to with pockets for guns but no one really wears them. Some buy them but they tend to find there way to the back of a closet never to be seen again. Kind of like we all have a small box full of holsters that did not work for use.

Any how good luck finding that niche market.

Interesting concept. I see it as a niche within a niche. I know there are those who use the jacket holsters and this does give them another option within that concept. Personally I prefer a traditional holster, be it belt, shoulder or pocket (pant or outside coat pocket).

I will never carry off my body. No practical reason too. Gota get inside the coat some how to draw . So you learn something new ! Not me. Or just do as you have done for years. For me it hook the coat or shirt bottom and lift if zipped up or sweep if open.

I carry a commander sized pistol raked to the rear at a 2:00 to 2:10 position so not going far to get my handgun. easy to carry even sitting and quick to barrel up on target.

As another guy who wears a suit, and occasionally carries his wallet in a suit pocket, will this holster with the magnets damage my debit/credit cards?
