This was posted on another hunting forum

"With your best field rifle, known range & favorable conditions (good visibility, light to no wind, prone on bi-pods, time on your side); how far do you feel you can hit a 6" circle with your coldbore shot (no sighters) with a 90%+ confidence (you'd be willing to put up a $100 bill on hitting it)"

I have taken a challenge upon my self to try this no matter the conditions. 20 shots on 20 different days!

I will be doing a video documentary on my progress

Today I shot from 587 yards, In very windy conditions.

    Looks fun!

Wish I had a place close by where I could shoot some distance.

Lots of wind for your shot.

200 yards, but the only centerfire rifles I own are "inadequate"

Nice shot. Sometimes I wish I had somewhere convenient to shoot long distances.

Wow. Man, that was awesome. Very inspiring. I'm really looking forward to the rest.

I'm a rifle noob if it isn't obvious haha. I love this kind of stuff though. Thanks for sharing this. :)

Sweet. Nice shot man. What are the details on the rifle?

Also, in the first video, that rangefinder looked like it might be a phone (thought it said Verizon). Is that an app?

    Timney Trigger

The range finder... I just take a pic with my phone threw the range finder.

It makes it easy, I can just add a photo to the video. and when I get home to do the video i can remember what the range was. haha

How about starting the 20 round count again if you miss? Kind of like the "know your limitations" drill in some precision rifle classes.

    Interesting thread and nice shooting.

Assuming you had some experience with your rifle/scope/ammo before you began this drill, how accurate would you have claimed to be with them beforehand? Reliably 1 moa, less, more?

I think it may be instructive to compare that value with the actual long range results you achieve.

gbw, I have shot this gun / load a bit, Sadly I am OUT of powder now and every " cold bore challenge" will be different after this.

Here are 2, 3 shot groups at 510 yards

Sure, we're all in the same 'powder boat' to one degree or another.

Still, if you're willing to share it, it would be interesting and of value to know what you believed the accuracy to be based on your experience before you began this challenge, and to compare it with the actual results you achieve.

(The photos appear to be the same group twice).

They are now - the bottom photo has been replaced, certainly an inadvertent error.
