Tactical Shotgun Skill Builder

The skill builder class is a 1/2 day version of DS-1 & covers the fundamentals of using a shotgun to defend yourself in a violent encounter. The skill builder classes are heavy in shooting drills & light in lecture. While we touch on the mindset, tactics, skill & equipment points, the main focus of this class is on shooting. This is an entry level class that will get you up to speed & comfortable with manipulating & shooting your rifle in a variety of situations & positions. Shooting will be done from 5 to 25 yards with a focus on skill development & balancing the need for precision vs. speed.

Class topics:

* Safety
* Mindset considerations
* Weapon & gear selection
* Patterning
* Point of aim vs. point of impact with slugs
* Weapon mounting & manipulations
* Reloading
* Firing positions
* Use of cover & concealment
* DS-1 Test

Please come to class with tested & functioning weapons if at all possible. We will pattern your shotgun with buckshot & check point of aim vs point of impact for slugs at various ranges during the class. Your weapon should reliably function with your training ammo. Bring gear that works. Wearing your gear & moving around with your weapon will help you figure out if there are going to be gear conflicts before class starts. This will save you time & frustration on the range. The recommended ammo quantity is a reasonable maximum expectation. If you tend to shoot more or jump in on drills if space allows you may need more. If you’re judicious with your shooting you can get by with less but you will not get the maximum benefit of the class.

You are responsible for informing the instructors of any condition that might interfere with your ability to perform some of the class drills. We will do whatever we can to accommodate as wide a range of students as possible but the more notice we have the better prepared we can be. You are also responsible for brining any medical devices or medications that you might need during class.

We shoot rain, snow or shine so come prepared. The weather in Colorado can be very unpredictable- overpack to be on the safe side. There are no refunds for lack of student preparation.
