I read somewhere that Colt made a 6 shot cylinder for the 1849. Improved metallurgy enabled a 5 shot ,36 so I am assuming a later version had a 6 shot .31. Anyone know?

Fingers, King of the SS Colts,

For a stainless revolver that one is kinda dirty!

Fingers,

Are those rear sights on the forcing cone end of the barrel ? Can you give us some details if they are like how they are mounted and what if any modifications to the top of the hammer have been made?

I have seen pictures of some "Confederate" guns with such sights and often wondered about them.

These are a portion of a collection from the estate of a deceased collector... sadly many of these original Colt 1851 Navy .36, Colt 1860 Army .44, Colt 1849 Pocket .31, Colt 1862 Police .36, Remington NMA .44, Allen & Thurber 1837 Pepperbox .31, Hopkins & Allen .31 caliber cap-and-ball percussion revolver et al, have a lot of corrosion (water damage after a fire), but I plan to clean and restore as many as possible so I can actually fire them again...

I kwow what you mean. I'm pushing 70 and don't look near as good. Of course, the Parkinson's doesn't help any.
I too have Parkinson's and what an adventure it was this morning casting some balls. Were you exposed to agent orange? Anyway I know I'm off topic here, just curious.

It's a small dovetailed sight with a square notch. Looks to be home made. Of all the pocket models I got last year, this was by far in the worst shape.
