Does anyone know if the cylinder used on a pietta .44 Colt 1851 Navy is the same as one used on their Colt 1860 army? I do not have both models to compare and was wondering if it might be true since the 1860 uses the 1851s frame with a rebated cylinder (and my repo 1851 in .44 uses a rebated cylinder).

So

So if I wanted to purchase a cartridge conversion I could get the one for a .44 Army then. Thanks for help yall.

Man

Man I've been reading this forum for a while before posting not wanting to do a repeat threat but I found a few threads by a catfish33 about this same topic. Does anyone know if he succesfuly converted his .44 navy? Has anyone else done it?

I don't know the answer to your question, but you can send a PM (Private Message) to catfish33 and ask him. Go to User CP (upper/left corner on your screen) and then Private Messages. Then click on Send New Message.

I'm not sure about this, but I believe there might have been a hold-up concerning a conversion that had a loading gate, vs. one that didn't.

Hope this will help. ;)

same..same

yep..they seem to be the same. i have both the 1851 navy and the 1860 colt and just swapped cylinders..worked fine.

So it's possible...

To buy the converter and install it on, say a 1860 Sheriff's model? Maybe? :)

I heard it is not advisable to put a conversion for a 60 frame onto a 51 frame. The recoil shield part may not seat properly, I don't know.
But the manufacturers do not make conversion kits for 44 cal 51's.
