Colt 1911 serial lookup?

My dad asked me to find out when his Colt 1911 was made. I have the serial number. Where can I go to determine the date of manufactuer? Thanks

Unless I am reading Proofhopuse.com wrong, the serial number listing for the Colt 1911 only goes up to 1978.... Am I doing something wrong? If not, is there a newer listing for Colt 1911s made in the 1980s?

Timely thread. I'm trying to find more info on my newest girl, a Colt Service Model Ace. Its serial number is at least 1000 newer than any references I can find.

Does anyone know of a serial number listing of post 1945 Colt Aces?
