Colt 6920 VS Sig 556 Classic

I own a Colt 6920 and a 6921. I'm thinking of trading one of them for a Sig 556 Classic. Kinda like a piston gun and always liked Sigs.

My concern is accuracy with the Sig. All my Colts shoots 1 inch 100 yards. I've read varied reports about the Sigs accuracy being from 3 inches down.

Should I trade the Colt for the Sig or is the Colt product superior all the way around?

I bought a LWRC a couple years ago to have a piston gun. That thing couldn't group 10 inches at 100 yds. I sent it back twice and they never got it to shoot. This is why I'm concerned about the Sig and piston gun accuracy.

I would not.

When I jump into the piston pool, I'll opt for another LMT. That is, if the Ruger has fallen short of the hype. It may very well be the one, maybe not.

I would worry most about SIG's quality control, or lack thereof. A friend of mine has a Classic SWAT and it will deliver 1-1/2" groups at 100 yards with 62 grain loads. Accuracy is not a concern in his particular rifle. However, when I bought a classic I had issues with the quality of the furniture, which is a little hard to swallow for a $1600 rifle.

Your mileage may vary, and with these 556s, it seems there can be a lot of variance

You will miss the 6920.
I got out of ARs. If I were to get back into them, it would be the 6920 all over again.
All the other 5.56 rifles I tried were lacking in some way or another. Including the 556

I own a Sig 556...very reliable at the range(only time I've had to use it)...little front heavy when compared to some ARs...doesnt "feel" like an AR...very nice trigger...very ergonomic with long fingers/larger hands...less recoil than some ARs...takedown of rear is push pin but the front takedown requires 2 pennies...gas piston, recoil spring, selector easy to clean...bolt carrier group very similiar to AK-47...and easy to clean...

thin (not pencil) barrel, probably needs it due to weight (8.5 lbs)...small selection of "sig 556 accessories"...damn near have to buy another one to get spare parts...expensive usually around $1800 for SWAT...cheap furniture unless you go with SWAT model...

accuracy...I use an EOTech out to 75 yards at the range=3" group...standing at 25 yards =5" group... ( but honestly is shoots better than me).

I want another to make 100 yards plus gun...scope and bipod...but like you am a little concerned with accuracy...

this is really an AK that shoots 5.56, but more accurate

I own a Colt 6920 and a Bushmaster Gas Piston rifle. And every time I go to my favorite gun shop for the last three months, my eye is drawn to a Sig 556 Classic, he has for sale. Every time I see it, I have to pick it up and examine it. I believe the attraction is because of its particular look compared to all the other ARs. But then, I look at the price, think about my rifles that even with scopes and a full magazine, weigh less than the Sig.
Not to mention accuracy plus a couple of hundred more versus the Bushy??
No I would stay with your Colt and if you are looking for a gas piston rifle, I recommend the Bushmaster. That is my opinion, but there are a lot of gas piston rifles available. Remember the only person you have to satisfy is yourself and if the Sig does it, go for it.

I have a Sig 556 and an Stag Ar15. I like them both! I have to put some optics on the Sig and the AR. I'm sure the Sig will shoot every bit as well with the right ammo. I have loaded some 75 gr Bthps and they look promising in the Sig. I using 55 gr FMJs in the AR.

If you like them get both!

I've had a Bushy A2 that has given me nothing to complain about for 15 years. I'm going to ad a Sig556 to the collection because I can (and keep the Bushy)

I absolutely despise DI.

but, with that said, I wouldn't get rid of a rifle you are happy with, for one you don't know. I would save the $$ and buy the Sig when you can. then if you don't like it, you aren't out.

I would like a Sig556 some day also, but if you really just want a 5.56 that runs off a piston, why not buy a Saiga or other AK-style rifle that shoots 5.56, in the meantime? you can get it for less than 1/3 the price, and it's not like it will depreciate in value between now and when you get enough $$ together for your Sig.

If your gonna get rid of one of the Colts I would say the 6920. I believe the 6921 is the 14.5' barrel right? Those are harder to come by and I would think would hold more value than the 6920. Plus the 6921 is probably the closest thing to an M4 you can get.
