I have seen a number of clubs dedicated to the various S&W revolvers. How about a club dedicated to the Detective Special?

I first encountered the DS when I was around 10 years old when a friend of my father's who was a NY State Police BCI investigator came over for dinner and took off his jacket and I saw the gun. After dinner, he and my great uncle had a friendly competiton- his DS vs.Rob's 1911. He did very well which was a surprise considering Rob's shooting skills.

I ran into him again in the 1970's after he had retired. His retirement gift was a brand new nickel plated DS with the shrouded barrel. I was quite impressed with the gun. As far as I know he never shot it.

Later on when I obtained my permit, I hunted for the perfect DS. I found it 5 years ago and have been carrying it daily ever since.

I like the way the grip fits my hand and the extra shot. Speedloaders for this fit my Model 19 also and I am not hesitant to use Plus P loads in it as long as I do not over do.

This will be one of my favorite threads ever.

Here is one Detective Special...

and a pair of 1975 Cobras.

I like mine better than any J-Frame I have ever owned or shot.

NO Pics Available Right Now-

but please count me in~! I own 3x second series (1947-1972) Colt
Detective Specials; as well as a late '72 [or very early '73?] Colt
Agent. The two blued DS's are all original, and date back to 1966;
while the 1971 factory nickel DS has only been test fired a total
of six times; and is in pristine condition. The Colt Agent is from
the "first run" of the second series Agent's; as it has a glossy
blue finish, with the same grips as the earlier model DS's. All
of these are 'safe queens", to eventually be passed down to
my daughter and grand-daughter~! ;) :D

Me too

Also no pictures. I have 4 Colt D frame snubs:
2" SF-VI
2" DS-II
3" DS-II
2" Agent (80's version, parkerized)

Also, have 2 4" D frames
Police Positive Special MKV
SF-VI

Also like the Colt DS

I bought the one below new in 1993 or so, and have shot it quite a bit at the range. I have carried it in a DeSantis speed scabbard and it conceals very well. I especially like the trigger feel on this gun, both single and double action.

This is Mrs. Dodge's that had been pimped a little when I got it:

It may be for sale if Springfield gets the bugs out of her EMP.

World's oldest computer keyboard

Cosmoline:

Your Detective Special is from 1953 but your computer keyboard behind it looks like Smith Corona 1938 or so.

I'm afraid I have "retro" tastes in a lot of things. IIRC I calculated the SN on that maroon S-C to about 1933. I have a similar black standard portable from 1940 and it has a number of additional features. The modern economy can collapse and oil can sell for $1,000 a barrel, but all the items in that photo will still be working 100%. I'd be happy if I could clank away on my S-C in the office while smoking a pipe and listening to Paul Whiteman on the crystal set.

Get off my lawn you kids!

When my ex-wife wanted a handgun, the DS was what I got her. She was not much of a shooter but really liked this gun. I tried swapping it from here with a S&W Ladysmith. No dice. I tried a Walther PPKs, no dice. She really kind of fell into the Colt mystique.

It is about the perfect CCW piece.

Colt DS

I met my 1st Colt DS back in the 60s. A local sheriff deputy and friend of the family carried it as a back up gun while on duty and also when off duty. I bought one back in 84 and have carried it and have had fun with it ever since.I purchased a Bianchi 8L Shadow holster for it and have found the holster to be very comfortable. It rides high enough to be easily concealable. Having large hands, I installed Pachmayr grips. This gun is strickly self defense and with 6 shoots and it's smooth action it's the best I've ever owned in a 38sp.
