The other day I posted that I would like to build a 1911. Well today I went into my local gun shop and saw this for $830. The only thing I am not sure of are the gutter sights. Anyone have any experience with the new Agent? I am used to more modern guns and have never really fooled with 1911's.

Get yourself a Colt Defender. Almost the same size. Real sights. Gutter sights are for "up close and personal," more of a "snubby" concept. I cant think of any other compact 1911 that doesn't have real sights.

I'm guessing that price is NIB, and not a used example?

All in all, the "guttersnipe" style sights work fine, not nearly as rabidly unconventional as you'd think.

I have over 500 rounds from my agent The sight works fine. This is a close up pistol and with a lttle practice you can do very well with this sights.
I only use the last inch or so of the sight . If I shoot down whole sight I shoot low. This sight isn't new been around for years.
I belive Kimber also has a version of this on one of their compacts.
If you want sights Get a Defender I still have mine but agent is carried more.

I have an old S&W 39-2 ASP custom with the original Guttersnipe sights...see pics below. I am fairly proficient with them just not cut into the top of the slide like the new agent.

Any updates on the new Agent? Round count, reliability, etc.? I'm thinking about one for my next purchase and possibly one for my brother as well.

Anyone? I haven't read much on them, are they not all that popular?

Get a kimber Ultra RCP basically the same compact 1911 but bobbed hammer and feels great in your hand.

But isn't the RCP a good $200 more?
And I'm really asking about the Colt, not other compact models.

I bought one about a month ago at the local gun show but I had elbow surgery so I haven't gotten to the range yet. Someone else tried to buy it out from under me as I was going through the background check at the show, so apparently there is some interest...
