I am currently looking at a Colt officers model, there are two one in .22lr that looks like it saw very little use. Made in 1939 according to the Colt Collector site. The .38 dates to 1952. How is the accuracy and quality of these models?. What would they sell for in VG to excellent condition? I know how to check out a Smith but Colts I am unfamiliar with how to detect wear.

Thanks for your help.

I’m not an expert but I have an officers model target HB. IMO quality is excellent.

Make sure the crane/yoke is tight against the frame. Make sure the cylinder doesn’t move with the trigger held back. Cylinder notches aren’t battered. Ejector rod straight, etc.

Unlike S&W, Colts achieve full lock up when the trigger is pulled. Pull and hold the trigger on each cylinder, then gently wiggle fore/aft and rotationally to check for play.

A nice .38 OM in this neck of the wood go for 750-1000 depending on condition and box, perhaps a bit more for the .22.

Agree completely. The accuracy of the officers model is legendary. They were often used by bulls eye competitors back in the day who demanded gilt edged accuracy.
