Just got an email from Guns America detailing some upcoming Shot Show attractions. Here is one of the pictures of a new DAO Colt 1911 style pistol coming out. Looks a bit different than the Double Eagle, hopefully it won't meet the same fate. The trigger vaguely reminds me of the Para "light double action" guns. The dimensions don't look much different than a standard 1911, I guess this will be for the guys who don't like any safeties. I don't see a grip safety either. Looks interesting, I'll be keeping my eye on this one!

That gun certainly doesn't look like the kind of prototype they unveil at SHOT. It looks like something somebody cobbled together at home. Perhaps this is a leaked photo of the development mule?

I for one am not a big fan of taking a beloved, proven design and changing a core aspect of it. Especially by the iconic original nameplate, especially on its 100th birthday.

If you want a double action gun, there are much better choices than a heavy steel single stack 1911-ish something or other. If you want a 1911, you want everything that comes with it, most especially the wonderful SA trigger.

Sorry to rant, but I've been pretty disappointed by all the news I've seen of SHOT this year. Seems like a lot of half-baked ideas so far.

Not the first time they've done a DA 1911. I'd like to see the guts under the right grip.

I gotta say Colt is going backwards in innovations instead of forward.
That gun looks horrid and i looked at the better looking one on the site also.
If they made it a 2.5" micro 9mm or 45acp with a LDA trigger then id call that progress, That gun is just a waste of good steel imo.

Looks like a Pop-Rivet there on the right side...holding down the small piece of sheet Metal.

Sad...

had a couple of them in my hand today and yes it was the colt by the way. Nice compact 1911 as it balanced real well and felt good in my hand. Also you can keep pulling the trigger unlike the glock where you need to reset the trigger. trigger pull was a little stiff but ok.

2009 and 2010 they had DA New Agent at the NRA convention show . Trigger pull was way to much . I had older men try and they couldn't do it . I still have not saw one in dealer.

I disagree

I think COLT may have finally brought out something new that will succeed.

Remember the DOUBLE EAGLE? It was a mistake from the beginning, but when they brought out the MARK II version, it was a usable firearm. By then, it was too late and the damage had been done.

The big selling points on the 1911 are the caliber and the grip. Yes the trigger is supposed to be a big sell, but it may cost as many sales as it earns.

I have a 1911 NATIONAL MATCH and it is a great target gun, but that is it. I would take my BERETTA 96 over it any day. I want the simplicity of a dao trigger. NO SAFETY and NO SHORT TRIGGER. That is my preference and experience.

If you disagree, fine, but do not knock something because you have no use for it. I consider the COCKED AND LOCKED CARRY as useful as a penis on a girl!

The trigger is the selling point of the 1911 to me. If I wanted DAO or DA/SA with a hammer, I'd purchase a fine Sig or H&K. That's why I don't consider this gun to be too useful.

To me the selling point of the 1911 is also the trigger, with grip and size of the gun a close overall second. All of the full sized double action .45's I've tried that have comparible barrel length and capacity specifications, I've just found them to be too large. The FNP45 and XDm45 are two examples.

Also, the large amount of aftermarket parts and customization available is a nice bonus.

Considering all the Moros, Mexicans, Germans, Russians, Japanese, Koreans, Chinese, Viet Namese and all around bad guys who have been "screwed" by the ole cocked-and-locked M1911, it appears that organ is more useful than you might imagine.

Ugh. Why bother with this Colt?

I mean really what advantage could that possibly hold over a SIG P220 DAK?

Colt seems to fitfully make some improvements in quality, and then slip back into mediocrity through mismanagement.

How to make Colts a viable gun company again, the step by step guide:

1.) Close up shop and leave Connecticut.

2.) Relocate to a business friendly state, preferably one with reasonable freedoms where gun laws are concerned.

3.) Take key talented personnel if possible when the move is made to include engineers, and skilled craftsmen, fire all the rest.

4.) Hire some engineers that actually have new product ideas.

5.) Purchase modern machining equipment.

6.) Develop new and relevant products, while improving the current lineup.

7.) Reintroduce some products that are in high demand or that demand high prices on the used market.

8.) Combine all of the above steps to produce the finest firearms readily available anywhere. Best materials, best design, best workmanship. No excuses, and if the guns end up at a premium price then so be it, make sure they live up to that premium. Colts are supposed to be the best, and there are still plenty of people out there who are willing to part with $$$ for well made products.

#10 bring back the Python and Anandconda.

Have been given the oppotunity to shoot a friends Python on a few occasions and need to get one. Too expensive for me at this point in life.
