Hmmm...interesting is one way to put it. Entertaining reading at least.

they say theres a sucker born every minute.

part of me thinks that a 400 yd combat pistol is a silly answer to a question that nobody asked

And how effective would .45ACP be at 400 yards? I don't care what they say, pistols are not offensive weapons in war and it's silly to think that.

With open sights? I wouldn't even be able to see the target!

I've seen this before, and it's no more believable this time around than the previous time.

I accidentally shot my stapler with my cousin's Glock 22 in .40 cal from 200 yards. The ammo was Winchester white box FMJ and barely even dented the stapler. I'm sure it would have penetrated a softer target, but I thought a pistol would be more effective at 200 yards. The bullet did just enough damage so that I couldn't remove the piece to refill it with staples, so I threw it away. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of it.

A slow, heavy bullet like 45 acp will retain quite a bit of energy at 400 yards. Punching it into a ballistic calculator, a standard 230 ball load would lose about 200 fps, retaining almost 60% of it's energy. Of course, it's also going to drop 34 feet.

At last someone has been able to make a sniper-grade M1911!

I can hardly wait until the year 2100 when the highly classified A5 Pistol Model (also known as the Close Quarters Battle Machine Pistol), is slated for military use.

A tang sight is a sight mounted on the tang -- which is the metal fingers extending backward from the receiver into the wrist of the stock. A Winchester 94 has a tang. An M1911 doesn't.

But you are correct that the sights shown on the pistol are not adequate for such long range shooting. Unless someone like Ed McGivern or Elmer Keith is doing the shooting.

First they turned it into a target pistol, and now they're tryin' to turn it into a mortar. I wonder when this silliness will end.

I'm speechless...and you can quote me.

I thought a 400 yard pistol was called a rifle. I guess I have to start questioning what I read on the interwebs.

I must be getting old because I remember the days when people would refer to the H&K Mk23 as an "offensive weapon" because it was way too big to be practical also.

So when is Hornady coming out with a "Leverevolution" type .45acp for this beast?

One of the most accurate long range handguns out there is a T/C Contender and it's siblings. And this guy claims his modifications with a ballistically less stable projectile can outshoot the T/C at 400 yards. All BS or he doesn't understand long range handgunning. Probably both.
