Well I just went to a gun shop here in Baton Rouge and held a variety of guns. I held some Sigs (229 and 239), Beretta Px4 Storm, Walther PPS, and a Kahr. I held and dry fired each gun a few times and was at the shop for a good 45 minutes to 1 hour and the guns that kept getting back into my hands were the Sig 239 and Walther PPS. Both felt different but they both pointed right and felt good in my hand.

The one thing I found a little weird with the PPS was the mag release, but I'm sure if I handled it for a lot longer it wouldn't be an issue. I like how small it was and how, even though it's a light gun, it didn't feel that light in my hand. I also have small hands so it was comfortable even w/out the pinky extender.

What I liked about the Sig was that it felt sturdy, as well. I also like that it can shoot with the hammer decocked. The one thing that is kind of a good/bad is that while the Sig felt sturdy, it felt just a little bulky for my size (6' tall, ~160lbs) and I don't know if it would be easily concealable. While the gun will double as HD, I want it to be easy to carry, as well.

So, now that I've rambled on, people who have either and preferably people who have both or have shot both, what do you think of these guns? What of their reliability? What of the customer service of Sig and Walther (in the unfortunate case of something does go wrong)? What is your overall impression of each gun?

Thanks in advance guys!!

Edit: Forgot to mention, both the Sig and Walther that I held were the .40 S&W variant.

The Sig has many years under its belt and is a proven entity. The Walther is pretty new and while many people like them, there are also reports that they don't hold up so well under fairly intensive shooting, like a class.

Accessories like holsters, sights and spare mags are definitely in the Sig's favor.

The Sig is no lightweight but it's fairly easy to conceal. I'm 5'11 and 175 and can conceal it no problem. Still, the Walther is the winner in that category.

conversation 60 odd years from now--this is my great grand dads striker fired plastic gun. or......hand down a real sig?

160 pounds is a mite on the slim side, but if you can do the size of these pistole's, a proper rig-belt and holster, will render the extra 10 ounces of the sig moot. buy in 40 S&W so you can later get a 9mm conversion barrel. wife/daughter may find the 9 easier to shoot and if you don't reload it certainly if less expensive to feed.

I can't comment on the Walther, but I do own a DA/SA Sig 239 in 9mm. It is a great gun overall. I am about your same size, and carrying it is not bad at all. I usually carry the 239 inside the waist band at about 4 o'clock. It is very comfortable there unless I am sitting at my desk for 8 hours. Thats why I got a tiny 32... working at a desk sucks with a gun in your pants.
It has performed flawlessly through about 6000 rounds now. I recently tossed some new springs in there... about a 5 minute job. Not a bad idea every 5K-6K rounds. I think you would be very happy with the 239 overall. Great multi-purpose pistol.

The conversation wont bug me since I plan on expanding my gun collection rather soon

I am definitely worried about the concealment being on the slim side (trying to gain some healthy weight lol). I really do like the fact that if I buy the Sig I can get a drop in barrel and have a "2 for 1" gun sort of thing.

Awesome, this is the sort of stuff I wanted to hear. I like that somebody else my size is easily able to conceal the Sig :)

How is the customer service for both the Walther and the Sig?
