Updates still coming. Looks like 2 men robbed K Jewelers and ran out where they ran into 2 citizens who attempted to intervene. One citizen was shot and the second citizen pulled out his gun, which he had a CCW for, and shot one of the suspects sending him to the hospital.

First high profile shooting by a CCW suspect with Trump as president. We'll see if it makes more than just Foxnews.

    Just checked CNN's main page.
I could not find anything about this, but it was no surprise.

My understanding is that the one killed was one of the CCW'ers attempting to intervene. A lady I went to high school with was there when it happened, I'm hearing about it on Facebook.

Looks like they caught the 2nd and remaining suspect.

Also, it's still unknown if the two CCW'rs knew each other.

I hate asking this, but knowing little about it I wonder if the ccw holders had any reason to intervene.

It sounds like perhaps they could have let the insurance companies and police handle the whole thing. I obviously know only a little.

I pray for the victims and their families.

We really don't know what happened. The article said they were on the way out. It could very well be the first guy was out in the mall, not the store and was confronted with two guys out in the mall with guns out and thought he was in an active shooter situation. We just don't know.

It was reported that only one of the citizens was armed. The citizen who was killed was not armed. I am sure the liberal press would have reported the incident if the armed citizens had been killed. It would have been a case of, we told you so. Armed citizens are a danger to themselves and others.:fire:

This morning GMA avoided any mention of the citizen with the gun but did point out that an unarmed man was killed and one robber wounded.
Once the bullets started flying I don't see that the guy had much choice in moving to stop it.
The whole story will be interesting from the citizen point, who missed and hit bystanders and the repercussions following will have effects on the future of us all.

Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on who shot who), I really doubt there will be any actual repercussions that affect even Texans who carry, let alone anyone else. Just not enough public notice or attention to make a drop in the bucket worth of difference.

Sam, are you actually saying that if the citizen wounded any or all of the 6 bystanders along with the robber it won't have repercussions to him or the concealed weapons movement? I find that astounding.

Latest news was four shot, four taken to hospitals, one shot dead, three shot, one heart attack symptoms, two not life threatening injuries (apparently not hospitalized). First reports are pretty much always wrong in all but the grossest of details. Reports were the suspect was firing wildly as he ran out.

The San Antonio news article linked above has been updated and the second suspect has been arrested, from the photo released, how could any jewelry store security or clerk not be on red alert when he walked it!

A lot to talk about for this incident in Strategy and Tactics once the real facts are determined and released (if ever if doesn't play out to the anti-carry narritive).

To HIM? Oh, heck yes. He'd have a lot of uncomfortable time in court, likely stretching out years. May or may not be found criminally guilty. May or may not be found civilly liable for damages. Bad place to be.

To the rest of us? No, not really. People shoot people all the time, and some are licensed to carry and some aren't, and some are found justified and some aren't, and some are negligent/accidental, etc. One little incident like this won't put anything on the legislative agenda in Texas. After all, what would that even look like? A "be careful who you shoot!" law? :) It isn't like this will prompt a big push to change licensing standards, or threaten Texans' right to carry. Heck, cops shoot a LOT more people accidentally than licensed concealed carriers do, and we don't go changing the law because of that.

Beyond Texas, the impact will be absolutely zero.

As it appears now, the wisdom of the unarmed man getting involved can be debated, but once the robbers began shooting, I have no issue with the CCW holder engaging them. This is especially true if the carrier (of their family) was in some sort of compromised position.

I can't recall of a public, citizen shooting in which there was that much collateral damage if he did indeed do the damage but it is a frequent topic here.
Conversely, if the was on target and the robbers were the ones shooting up the crowd it could have positive implications to the right to carry.
I'm not saying it makes squat for difference tomorrow or the next day if there is a similar shooting but the truth on the ground and the way it is reported will.

Right! And the fact that we can't recall of such a case could mean that it never, ever happens ...or that it doesn't make enough of even a local splash to have entered into our discussions.

I always wonder about situations like this. Suppose you get into a shoot out with a couple of robbers. Cops come into the mall and see you shooting. What's to stop them from shooting you? How are they gonna know you're the good guy?

How will they know in any case in which they come up on any altercation that is in progress.
They won't know you in your own living room or front yard either.
Better put some thought into how you can quickly de-escalate without being shot by either party.

They're not. What's more, if they've been dispatched to an "active shooter" incident, they're likely to fire on you without warning!
