Concealed Carry: How do you discreately carry spare mags?

Sumpin to consider...
Hardly anybody would notice if you had em hangin from your wrist.
This is the age of pagers n cel phones n other yuppy stuff.

For my BHP or 1911, I do one of the following:

1. Carry the extra mag in a high-rise OWB mag holder on the weak side. For the BHP, I use one from Milt Sparks. For the 1911, I use one from Dane Burns.

2. Just chuck it in my weak-side pocket. I use a tyvek "sheath" to keep lint and stuff out, and lead "in."

Gerber knife belt sheath. Looks like a multi tool no muss no fuss.

Sam is right though nobody would notice if you were carrying a couple of 30 round AK mags in a mag pouch much less a little single stack pistol mag.

Reminds me of a scene in Last Action Hero...yes I liked it....where the main bad guy just killed some guy in cold blood with a huge/loud revo and yells "I just shot a man in cold." Looks at his watch and waits for sirens and then yells louder. "I say, I just shot a man in cold blood!!" Somebody yells back..."shut up!"

There is a lot of truth to that scene. People are oblivious.

Horsey Milt Sparks double pouch of 1911 mags port side about 10:30ish. If I carry openly (rare) people will not often recognize the pistol in IWB. When looking from my left, no one has given mags or bug a second look. YMMV, don't know what North Carolina statute sez.

Open Carry is technically legal in NC, but I prefer to avoid being obvious. I'm talking discreat carry here (deep concealment, if you prefer that term).

I've considered a cell phone or knive pouch, but I already always carry a real cell phone and knive in pouches on my belt so duplicate pouches would not be very covert.

What about IWB mag pouches? I've seen references to them here and there. Does anybody use one? Where would I get one?

How about some kind of pouch in the left back pocket? Has anybody tried that?

For the P32, I like the Uncle Mike's #1 holster mod. You cut open the stabilizer flap on the UM, and then sew or staple the sides shut again so it'll snugly hold a spare mag. The resulting package is more flat and wallet-like than the gun without the spare magazine.

For the bigger guns, I throw a spare in my back pocket next to my cell phone. Single-stack guns rock, for the flat reloads alone.

Here's a "modded" UM #1 for the P32:

For concealment, a mag pouch at my off side waist. IWB pouches work best for me with single stack mags. A cover garment is needed to conceal the mag & pouch this way.

Or, the inside pocket of a jacket/etc.....

I prefer Mernickle's leather pouches, and Side Armor's kydex pouches. Kramer & Sparks work well too. There are other quality pouches, I just have these and they work well.

OWB, spare pocket, have used a generic multi tool/knife sheath. I wore out and can't find another IWB horse hide that had a clip (similar to old Bianchi).

True story: Attending theatre with another couple, we guys are CCW, and I have besides the 1911, a NAA mini-revolver. The ladies know we are carrying and into all the stuff we are. Anyway my date leans over and starts fiddlin' with my shirt pocket...umm "that a roll of mints" "nope just the speedloader for mini-revolver". :D Wouldn't have been so bad had she not explained to the other couple the reason her program went flying...
Whew- at least it was before lights out.

Pants

I know allot of guys don't think it is the best plan to carry a mag in a pocket, but I have had really good luck with that type or carry. I have allot of Carpenter type pants(jeans, khakis, and some Corduroy). I usually carry my spare clip in the side leg pocket that is meant for pliers I think.

I do allot of practicing removing the clip and loading an empty gun. If it will work with your pants I like to crouch down to reload. It makes my leg easier to reach, and if I need to reload chances are someone is shooting back. It then makes me a smaller target, and hopfully harder to hit.

For the P-32, I use the same rig as Marko.

For the Hi-Power, I just use a 17rnd KRD mag, no extra mag. I figger that's enough.

I carry a 10 round mag in my pocket for my M1991A1 in 45 ACP. I also have a eyeglass hard case with 2 extra 7 rd mags in the car. Nobody would associate a Marchon eyeglass case with 14 rds of 45 ACP.

I use that little coin pocket on my jeans. An 8 round wilson mag fits in there perfectly. One of these days though I'll get a dedicated mag carrier.

Good question.. I usually carry in a phone case but I have noticed an increasing number of people who take a second look and some will even ask 'Is that a phone?'. I am therefore trying to find alternatives, but so far no go!!

You can buy IWB mag carriers for more concealment, and even pocket mag carrier, i.e., like a pocket holster but for a spare mag. I think Kramer makes the latter. The pocket mag carrier keeps the lint off and makes sure the positioning doesn't change too much.
