EDC carry has been almost exclusively 1911 .45, IWB at 03:00, not germane to my question. For a lot of reasons it occasionally becomes my S&W 442 5 shot .38spl, 125gr Golden Sabre. For that I have the belt, holster, and reload configured, still IWB at about 04:00, not a new carry option, just an alternate. Reload configuration is also set, 1 Safariland 5 round push release speed loader. The carry, the reload and the position is not at issue. Carrying the speed loader concealed is.

Recommendations, please for an easily accessed yet low profile speed loader pouch. Strips are not considered, nor 2+2+2 drop pouches. What is/are the preferred unobtrusive (nothing is truly concealed) single pouch to be carried on the belt ~20:00 - 22:00? I see the Barsony (good stuff) pouches at $17/$30 for nylon/leather. Any other recommendations for least obtrusive (understanding round vs flat magazines), although that's lesser importance than access and security.

Thanks!

Don Hume Pack Six speedloader carrier.

It straddles the belt, positioning three cartridges outside the belt and three cartridges inside the belt.

Not what you asked for, but perhaps an option you hadn't considered, the Aholster Bactrian pocket double speed loader pouch

I haven't found any good way to belt carry speedloaders dicreetly. I just put a couple loaded Safariland Comp <whatevertheyare> in my back pocket. The Safarilands hold the cartridges securely. I've not had any inadvertent release.

(If concealment didn't matter I could just use the usual carriers, that stick way out.)

Thanks all! I didn't realize there was such a selection. As soon as I saw the comment about the Split Six I remembered it from quite a while back. That or the wicked cool Barranti will probably fill the bill. Thanks again for the ideas

-jb, all are better than "the usual carriers, that stick way out"

I also prefer pocket carry for moonclips. Instead of putting them inside a shell, I put them over a stud. I can keep one to four in a pocket and because they're below the waistline they're easier to conceal than if I were to have them riding outside the hip bone. There is a lot of fabric at the front of trousers, especially with pleats, to conceal stuff. The beltline, on the other hand, is already the greatest perimeter unless a person has an overhanging belly.

If you can do ANY leather work-or are willing to learn a tiny amount-the 'over the belt' speedloader holster is an extraordinarily simple project. One small piece of leather, one snap; no stitching, don't even need to finish it if you won't want to.

For those that have used the “split-six” style carriers, have you ever had a problem with using the Safariland Comp II/III loaders with a belt depressing the release button in the middle of the speed loader and dropping the ammo out of the loader?

I never had anything like that happen.

And since you brought it up.... :)

I just now tried it, and did get the loader to release, but I had to apply pressure to both sides of the carrier and use a good bit of force. Not saying it couldn't happen with pressure on one side, but it didn't go for me doing that.

The Safariland carrier covers things pretty well, and I think it would be more of a fluke if it happened than something you'd really have to be concerned about and watch out for. Not saying it couldn't happen, just not all that likely to. While I didn't daily carry a revolver along with that type of carrier for all that long (6-8 months or so), I never ran into any issues with them (other than once in a while finding a cover unsnapped at the end of the day), and Ive always had an active lifestyle, and whatever Ive carried, usually has had its share of hard use and knocks.

I've used the one I showed (and it's brethren) in IDPA with Safariland loaders, and never had an issue over 2-3 matches.

Also-if it *did* release, the carrier would hold them essentially in place?

Seems that way, but if you didnt know it and were moving around, all bets are probably off at some point.

For as popular as the Safariland carriers were back when revolvers were in their prime, I would think we would have heard about it if it was an issue.
