I have read some things about converting an AK into full by removing a sear or something like that.

I overheard some employees about how "easy" it is to convert a weapon to full auto.

Anyway, i just dont know enough about the mechanics of semi-auto rifles to know whether all this talk is media baloney or if this is in fact as easy as people seem to think it is.

I would love to have some info to be able to tell people that its all rumor and that it is in fact very hard, or impossible to convert anything to full auto.

Can you learned people help me? :)

Thanks.

Easy. Just bend the electricity bracket 90° to the left and sharpen the frannispan about seven ninety-thirteenths of an inch.

Most gunsmiths will charge you $200 for that. You can do it yourself in about fifteen minutes if you've got a big enough hammer to bend the electricity bracket.

You forgot about filing down the frazzeler and welding the speedle to the chopunker.

Uh... you don't want to use an ordinary bracket, if you want to go through over 1,000 rounds. You want one that'll hold up to abuse... an alloy of Bismuth and Lithium is key. Pretty hard to come by in the states, but not hard to pick up in Latin America.

No, no, no. That ain't it. You gotta take the flapper spring half-way out, bend it about 13 degrees. Then you gotta replace both sniglet plates with 2" sections of J-channel. Once you file down the dwarf pin and anchor the charging nut, she's good-to-go.

Possessing and/or creating a full-auto gun is highly illegal without the appropriate paperwork. Fishing for info on how to do it is uncool. We don't play that here... We just make fun of you briefly for asking.

I don't think he is actually looking for instructions on HOW to do it. I think he is looking for enough information to be able to tell coworkers that it is not a simple, easy task like the media portray's it.

Yeah, I hear that a lot too. My personal favorite is filing the firing pin down:rolleyes: A former coworker mentioned wanting to do that, I told him to let me know how it worked out.

Him: "I think I filed too much off of it, it wont shoot anything!"
Me: "DUH!"

Basicly, its a myth. The only guns easily converted are open-bolt semis. The ATF put a stop to them around '81.

Unlike closed-bolt semi-autos, which require addtional parts and/or machining to make them capable of full suto fire, open bolt semis were copies of full-auto guns that had extra parts to make them semi-auto. open bolt semi-auto MACs are an example of those. Current production MACs and clones are closed bolt.

Short answer: even if you could acquire the parts you need, which is hard to come by because possession of a complete set is illegal, you still would need to do extensive work to the gun involving gunsmithing/machining skills just to get the parts in there.

In short, it is not easy.

maybe he was thinking of the crappily converted tec-9s

I think it was an SKS. Cant be sure though, I havent seen the coworker that actually tried it since they closed the plant we were working at (that was about eight years ago).

Converting the semi to full auto can be done if you have the equipment and parts to do it, but it can be very difficult to make it fire safely and reliably.
As jessel put it it isn't that easy and to be done quickly and reliably does require some machine tools and lots of parts.

Well, prison sentences aside it's generally not as easy as the media would have you believe.

There are some semi's out there that you can gimmick up to run "full auto" for a few rounds until the gimmick falls off. That kind of thing.

But as for the old Hollywood "file down a sear" movie plot that's just BS.

There is an easy way to make a firearm with a floating fireing pin slam fire, but it's about as smart as smacking yourself between the legs with a hammer, in fact the hammer will probably do less damage.

"...difficult to make it fire safely and reliably..." Legalities aside, this is the key. Any semi-auto can be made to shoot FA relatively easily with a file, but not safely or reliably. They tend to empty the mag with one pull of the trigger and don't stop firing until the mag is empty. They're completely uncontrollable too.
Seems to me the consequences are 10 years in a Federal prison and a $100,000 fine.

"They tend to empty the mag with one pull of the trigger and don't stop firing until the mag is empty. They're completely uncontrollable too."

correct, one lil touch of the trigger and it becomes a lead hose

One large rubber band.

Or a shoestring, although the ATF has declared ownership of a shoestring a felony :) They later changed their mind and said it's only a felony if you have it with the gun but there for a while they actually had it written that their opinion was any 14 inch shoestring was a machine gun.

Caution: Prison if you try this, plus maybe you will blow yourself up if the thing fires out of battery.

I saw a book for sale somewhere about how to convert an SKS to full auto, though I have no idea how difficult it is. Made me wonder if even the book was legal?

We don't discuss this here.

Anyone with mechanical ability can create an entire, fully-functioning machinegun from scratch if he had the desire. It ain't easy, but it ain't hard. And it ain't something we discuss here.
