The local toy store has one on the shelf. I'm looking for my first hunting semi auo. They have that, a .50 ae desert eagle and a 10mm para long slide. All within a few hundred bucks of each other.

Thank you for your comments

Coonan, very good. Minimal for mid sized deer in my opinion. But, still a well made handgun.

Any of them is adequate ballistically. the desert eagle is HUGE and HEAVY, the Coonan the weakest calibre and the long slide good but only if you like the concept of a long slide. Doesn't appeal to me. Given the choice I'd take the Coonan.

I've been drooling over Coonans since before their newer run. Might be the very next handgun I purchase. Fun gun for me, so no rush but I look forward to it.

A .460 Rowland conversion might be something else to look at. You can get conversion kits for 1911s, .45 Glock and .45 XDs.

Actually come to think of it, you could just get the Buffalo Bore or Double Tap .45 ACP+P that both mimic original .45 Colt loads. I believe the Double tap load even uses a SWC which would be a good profile for hunting.

The one i had, seemed to be a pretty decent gun. I ended up selling it to a friend and he shot it a lot and really liked it.

Personally, if i was getting a handgun for hunting, i'd be looking at revolvers, not semi auto's.

The Coonan has large grips and a long trigger pull,, how big are your hands?

I'd see which felt best in your hand and start there. Maybe see which one more easily accepts a scope for hunting
If the Para was made in Fla. you might want to check the QC reviews.

For me the Coonan balanced better then the 1, DE, I've had a chance to fire.
Haven't shot a Para.

A friend of mine has the Coonan, and it's a great shooting gun. It's a little picky on ammo, but otherwise good to go.

Having shot both it and a DE in .357, I'd probably go for the Coonan. I'm not sure the .50AE would be any better (for me).

I have DE 357. Does not do it for me. Coonan on the other hand I would like to buy one day. DE has become trite and ordinary.

The Coonan looks like fun. I'd stick with a 10mm. I have one in the 1911 style and love it. You can run same mags, comparable to 357 power, and a lot of part compatabilty.

I bought a new Coonan with night sights a couple of months ago and I love it! I do have rather large hands though. The grip is noticeably larger than a standard 1911. Nothing quite like a flame shooting out the barrel of a 1911, and everyone around is wondering what the heck you are shooting:)
