Cop almost loses gun

MSNBC would call a squirt gun "menacing". What a dumb move on the officers part though. He will never live that one down.

well you know, after all.....only police and military a responsible enough to have guns......

That is very funny.
It could have been very bad, but far better to have a couple of red faced officers getting to work graveyard shift under investigation for the next 6 months with Tuesday/Wednesday off instead of them trying to explain why a little old lady and her poodle were gunned down by thugs weilding the department issued rifle they signed for that day. They certainly will get time off without pay, retraining, something bigger than a slap on the wrist, I hope.

She parked the car, still unaware of the rifle on top of the trunk. Witnesses saw her at a nearby Starbucks.
Overpriced coffee is too much of a distraction to notice an AR on the trunk of your car? And I'm supposed to feel comfortable calling the police to save my life? What a joke

wow, there are going to be a lot of chewed hinnies over that one! everyone below the mayor is going to get a peice of that. and the sad part is they will spend several thousand dollars figuring out how to keep it from happening again. in stead of two stiff punishments. whatever happened to situational awareness? i guess the good news is it will be way less than the lawsuit if someone had picked up the gun, and shot someone with it.

WOW.The strange part is that the rifle was not EVEN reported as missing from the station. The other officer got in to the car-drove around-parked-made sure to find the Starbucks-get out of the car-get coffee.I cant belive this could happen, with all that training etc?I know a lot of people with guns,my self included-and NEVER has anything like this happend.
Thank you,
Henry
ps,,,had this happend to a law abiding citizen-look out-the media would have been all over you.Let's see how they "follow up" and report in this.

This is why EBR's have slings -- so you don't have to set them down to do other stuff.

Note the horribly underutilized tacticool sling in the photo.

Brought to you by the same fine PD that ordered all WA gun dealers to turn over AR-15 sales records from the past 6 months to see if they could find a rifle they "lost".

Why would you be surprised the rifle was not "lost" fast. You do know we showed everyone in Seattle the NRA Eddie Eagle video.

I left a Hardees cup half full of drink on a bumper one time and drove across town and it was still there. This is a whole other level though. Would have been hard to sell or miss at the range when it fired more than once per trigger pull.

I remember a couple years back Homeland Security was going through a "change of discipline" when they realized on multiple occasions officers were accidently leaving their firearm in public bathrooms... LEOs really need to get it together or at least have a better rep with the media so these photos don't get out. I sure as hell wouldn't leave my CCW sittin in a bathroom or in the seat of my car let alone on the hood/trunk...

Seriously, from the "secured" area to Starbucks and then from there to God knows where the woman decided to stop. She had to have been going 15 on the straight-a-ways and 2 on any turns.

That's nothing more than an advanced equipment test...the LPI on the grip must be like sand paper...it also proves that the weapon is light weight and well balanced...try doing something like that with an AK pattern "rifle"...psshhaw I say it would have slid down and broke on the hardtop...which offers proof that the AR-15/M-16 is a better design.

Right state, wrong department.

(the AR-15 letter was from the Washington State Patrol)

did somebody do the magnet trick on that officer and let it get out of hand (i.e. off property)? You know, put a strong magnet on the underside of the trunk, then put something metal on the trunk (like the rifle?). We've done the same thing with fast food cups and other containers to unsuspecting friends vehicles and watched as people try to flag them down to tell them there is a cup, box, bag ect on the roof of their car.

We have had guns left at our range. We had one member leave a boxed handgun on the roof and drive off. The Sig box was found on the side of the roadway by someone driving be later in the day. An M1A was left in the rack after the end of a match a few years back. It happens.
