Corbon Heavy .357 Hunting Loads

They load a 180 grain Jacketed Soft Point and a Hard Cast 200 grain. Both record velocities slightly higher than advertised- as usual with their products. Both bullets shoot considerably higher than 158 grain and lighter. This puts them above the bottom sight setting for my 6" but the 4" will sight in.

Mike, have you had a chance to compare your "perceived recoil", for lack of a better term, with the heavyweight Cor-Bons, to the "Major Manufacturer's" 158-gr. loadings? How 'bout to Georgia Arms' 158-gr. "Deer Stoppers"--at a reputed 1450 fps or so? Just curious...Thanks....mikey357

These loads greatly increase the flexibility of 357 guns. Many kudos to Cor-Bon for supporting them.

I definately do have a perceived recoil observation. The 180 grain jobs did 1142 from my 2.25" sp101 and I perceived a heck of a lot of recoil from it. It is relatively gentle with full velocity loads with lighter bullets. Most of my gp 100 shooting with these bullets has been bench rest or over upraised knees without shooting 158s at the same time. The recoil is not objectional from the 4 and 6' guns.

I haven't tried any of these heavy loads. would you say they are powerful enough for Deer, Black Bear, and Wild Boar? I've got a Redhawk in .357 that is more than stout enough to handle them as a steady diet. I don't think I'll be trying them in my SP-101 real soon though.

Tim: the softpoints can indeed take deer, the hardcast is for boar and black bear. Are they the BEST possible choices? No. But they'll do it. The Georgia Arms Gamestoppers might be a better choice than the softpoints on deer (and that's debatable), but there is NO factory load to top that hardcast for black bear and boar in 357Maggie.

If I was to own "just one gun", it'd be the short-shroud 6" GP100 exactly as pictured above. On 48-state wilderness trips, I'd have 148grain target wadcutters for small game up through possum size, 125JHPs for personal defense and critters approximately coyote size range, and both types of Cor-Bon above. Plus some snake shot.

Totally agreed on all points.

I have the GP 100 with 6" short shrouded barrel, and it is the most versatile DA Ruger makes in .357 magnum IMO.

I also agree on the ammo choices.
