My biggest extra expense was having to load a lot more jacketed bullets to shoot suppressed pistols as the hardcast lead I'd mostly been shooting just don't get along with suppressors, unless you get a "take-apart" suppressor that you can clean, but needing to clean the suppressor after fewer rounds than I clean my gun was a non-starter for me.
I started with a pistol can, but have found we use the rifle cans far more often. My wife was afraid to shoot a 5.56 AR because of the muzzle blast, but after putting a suppressor on it she's now having a great time banging steel at 300 yards. Again she has a hard time with 9mm pistols because of the muzzle blast, but shooting it suppressed she hits like it was a .22lr.
I guess you could say the biggest upside to getting some suppressors is its made my wife enjoy shooting a whole lot more!
