(and I hate to link to another forum, but this is what I have found)

So here is my kicker, they don't post? (my local warehouses are NOT posted IAW law, and to do so in Alaska would be a death knell, and a major boon to Sams)
so if it's buried (and not in any of their membership information, but rather an ancillary policy NOT explicitly spelled out, and of questionable (and they refund you membership if you question it...) and they are not posted, it seems to have no power of the law, until they eject you and request a trespass?

Costco is the one place I can list off the top of my head where a legally concealed weapon initiated a call from an employee to the police because they spotted his CCW. When the police confronted the person who was LEGALLY carrying their CCW in the parking lot of Costco, they ended up wrongfully shooting him to death.

http://pjmedia.com/blog/gunned-down-in-vegas-what-really-happened-to-erik-scott/

Mr. Scott did several things wrong that day, but Costco appears to be pretty dang anti-carry...or at least the responding police were.

"A Costco employee saw the holstered sidearm and told Scott he was not allowed to have the weapon in the store. Scott replied that he had a permit and the right to carry his weapon. He then went back to shopping. The employee called over a manager, who informed a 20-something security guard, who made a 911 call to police."

"As the police began to form a massive perimeter outside, Costco managers began evacuating the entire store without apparently explaining why to anyone. As Scott and his girlfriend exited the store he was identified to police officers, who were waiting with guns drawn outside the front door."

"Erik turned to find three officers facing him, guns drawn, and all three shouting different commands: “Get on the ground!” “Drop your weapon!” “Keep your hands up!” Erik held his hands up, spoke calmly, told them he DID have a concealed firearm and a legal CCW and was an ex-Army officer. His girlfriend was screaming about Erik being a West Point grad, former Army officer, etc. Erik leaned to his left, hands still up, to expose the pistol, and repeated, “I am disarming; I am disarming.” Witnesses say he started to lower his right hand, palm OUT, perhaps intending to remove holster and gun together — but never got the hand below his shoulder, when one of the cops (believed to be William Mosher, who had committed a fatal shooting in 2006) shot Erik in the chest with a .45-caliber semi-automatic weapon. Erik dropped to his knees, clearly in shock, his face a picture of disbelief. He was shot a second time and collapsed. The rest is ugly. The three officers unloaded again, firing a total of seven hollow-point rounds. At least four, possibly five, hit Erik in the back, after he was on the ground and dying."

Yeah, I know, however, to make my point,
NONE of my local Costco's are posted and neither was it in any membership brochure I've read.

Our Costco's are well posted, which is why I will not under any circumstances give them my business. My brother gave me a gift card and I threw it in the garbage. My business goes to SAMS cause they have no problem with open carry or conceal carry. Also of good news, is many of the business's that have banned carrying have changed their policy's due to a wonderful online site that exposes them. Wendy's and Star Bucks are two such business's that have changed their policy's, we spoke, and they listened.

I'll have to stop by the Costco over at Galleria to see if they have a posted weapon policy. The one and only time I went to one was in VT and, if memory serves, they actually sold a selection of long guns there.

I don't shop at Costco. But I would carry if there is no sign posted at the door regardless of any fine print in the membership text.

If Costco started to sell guns, ammo, and supplies, I'll join. Otherwise, I'll stick to Sam's Club.

My brother gave me a gift card and I threw it in the garbage.

Why didn't you just give it back to your brother. Are you a Costco member?

My 3 local Costco stores (2 in Washington, 1 in Idaho) don't have a posted policy on guns in their stores. It's funny, I talk guns with some of the guys when I'm there.

I may, or may not pay attention to their request that I and themselves deny my rights.
As a small business owner, I cannot begin to count the money I have spent there. Not that they care, but in AZ, I'm pretty sure all they can do is ask me to leave...that is unless I refuse.

The 4 Costco in Northern VA I frequent aren't posted and I've seen open carry on the premises a couple of times. Open carry isn't common here. Concealed carry is my choice and I only disarm where there are laws against weapons. I've shopped at Costco for many years without problems.

So, the costco policy is corporate BS?
basically a 'this is our policy' if anybody asks?
I know in Alaska the certainly are NOT posted

silicosys4, that version of the Erik Scott shooting is one of the most blatantly biased and innacurate accounts of the incident I've seen. You'd have to go to Scott's family, especially his half crazy father, to find a more dishonest take on the incident.

I tossed it in the trash just based on the principal. My Brother is a hard core lefty who is constantly trying to pull me into his lefty views, to which I always respond with a demonstration of my strong right side views. It's been this way for many years between he and I, but surprisingly he recently changed his party after watching Obama and his team of liars abusing their powers in just about every major cover up since he took office the first time. And let me say this about my Brother and I, we would never let politics ever come between us as brothers, under no circumstances. He actually chuckled when I discarded that gift card.

And as for other business's and our laws pertaining to firearms, as long as we are not told to remove our firearms, and, or, signs aren't posted, it is perfectly legal to wear open or concealed in banks and just about any other establishment, even establishments that sell alcohol providing you have a CWP and are wearing concealed, and providing it isn't prohibited by business policy or posted, I even wear in my church as do numerous others in our church. I think I could easily count on one hand the number of business's I've encountered over the years that prohibit firearms in this state, but I don't get out all that much these days.

In wisconsin both of the costco stores are posted. They are also just a short drive out of Milwaukee. Wis has 2 main bastions of dictatorship - milwaukee & madison.

Having been a member of both sams club and Costo, Costo has the better merchandise and shoppers. In sams clubs I have visited, they could have all the signs in mexican and many of the shoppers would think that is just fine.

Consumer reports consistantly rates Costo much better in customer satisfaction.

Since walmart / chinamart is the leader in destroying American retail business I refuse to shop there. In a toss up of leaving my CC in the car for an hour, or helping enslave retail workers to minimum wage with no benifits - I will go with Costo.

The one in Frisco Texas is not posted.....

It looks to be something the regional manager sets policy on

Buffalo Wild Wings in Texas have no weapons signs.......

Other places... No sign

Costco vs Sams/WalMart

Everyone is entitled to shop at one or the other. I have been in Costco stores that were just fine and have some things that Sams do not have. They do have a tendency to have some higher end products, except for electronics where they cary "non-standard, feature less versions" that appear the same as standard versions.
Sams and Walmart do much more business in this area and have better prices, so I find that I go to Sams much more often. In my experience, Sams employees arre a step up in quality when it comes to assisting customers.
If a store displays a 30.06 sign (no cc sign for TX), I make every attempt to take my business elsewhere.

A property owner has as much right to ask that people entering not be armed as a permit holder has to carry. Weight of law or not, if asked to not carry, I don't carry. I can simply exercise my option to not enter and shop/dine/bank with a 2A-friendly competitor, which is the right answer about 95% of the time (I do have to deal with the USPS from time to time).

Each of us has to make up his or her own mind on the "concealed means concealed" assertion. For me, if I want my rights respected, I must in turn respect the rights of others.

so what was the real version? Eric shot himself while trying to shoot heroic officers? It was an brutal execution. I have seen on you tube in another incidents where police pumped many bullets into unarmed victim after he went down. an unarmed homeless guy on video got shot over 40 times in the back. even though I saw the video do you have the real account?

The Costco membership is more expensive than Sam's Club as best I know.

Maybe some of you are getting your memberships through your company and don't really pay attention to cost. But membership in both is OUT same as memberships at multiple bookstores that charge for memberships.

Quite frankly, I have no idea whether or not my local Costco (Manassas, VA) is "posted".

I rarely pay attention to (the often masses of) signage (a.k.a., crap) displayed around the entrances to retail establishments.

I will try to remember to look next visit.

Ok, I did not care that when it came to politics most of their support went to the Democratic Party, but because EVERY time I went there I spent well over $100 dollars on top of $50 membership fee. Now I just go to local Whole Foods Market or Wegman's and buy less of higher quality products. I could not be happier.
