I don’t have a boat or any debt.. no cards. Like to keep it that way. Just an application away though.....

Good for you! We paid our mortgage off last year, about 20 years early!! It's a great feeling of accomplishment and of course freed up money for guns!

I spent a little more quality time with the 10-7 today-

Stuff like this, at least for me builds a lot of confidence.

I was browsing Gunbroker and ran across this Model 10-5 police turn-in. It could be a twin to my 10-7 and with a Buy It Now price of $249, it's a pretty good deal.

It's a foreign import, but that's not a problem, any decent Model 10 at that price seems reasonable. At least the importers mark is in a discrete location.

It has an X on the frame where the barrel enters, second gun I've seen like that. Wonder if some foreign dept. was marking their guns like that for some reason?

Yeah I think the Model 10's that were sold by Classic and AIM were from foreign PD's. Mine from Classic was imported by C.I.A. The "X" for sure isn't pretty, but I'd bet that revolver shoots like the rest of 'em, GOOD!

It's the quintessential medium frame revolver. Nothing more, nothing less, just what you need. Depending on which grips from a huge factory and aftermarket array work best for you, one size fits all.

As much as I like blued guns, I wound up with a stainless relative, a Models 65. It hides the external abuse of service guns a little better, and can be touched up easily by those of us with minimal refinishing skills.

It was a police trade in and is accurate, tight, and functions perfectly for me and probably will for several generations.

Speedo66 your right.. I’ve never seen a bad word said about a m10 or it’s derivatives. Everyone loves them and has fond memories. I can’t wait to get one

I picked this up a couple months ago before all the craziness hit. I went in to pick up the model 63 I'd bought the week before and they had a sale on all used guns. This looked interesting so I had them throw it on with the existing paperwork. I knew it had been around the block a few times but didn't realize til later that it's probably from 1948.

Here’s my 10-6 picked it up at a pawn shop about four years ago for $250. I had a buddy that was a Smith & Wesson Armorer. He went through it and it’s has a sweet tight action now.

Go to Gun Broker and search mrgundealer.com. last time I knew they still had some. I was in their store recently and there were 2 in the case.

I was just in there today - and they HAD 4 of them (3 with wood grips, 1 with Hogue grip). Now they have 3 left, as I just bought one of the wood grip ones!

Welcome to THR neighbor.

Rule number one here at THR is if you don't post a pic, it didn't really happen.
You wouldn't want all of your new friends to think you are lying would you? LOL!

86DCEB88-2169-4A36-A697-AEE3452DD230.jpeg I picked up this 10-5 about five years ago for a project gun. I originally bought it to turn into a belly gun but it went through a couple of directions before getting there. The dbl. action pull that came on this gun is like something most gunsmiths dream of doing. So it got a hammer chop first then three barrel chops and just recently a grip chop.

I love the idea of the model 10. And when I bought my first (nickel pre-10 from about 1949) I went for one with a tapered barrel. They are elegant and just look “old school.” Mine had smooth bone grips the original police chief owner had installed. Neat.

However, if you’re a recoil wuss like me..... they do let you know you just fired. And the tapered barrel gets warm quick, too. And the grips seemed to slide right through my fingers when I fired, making the gun even harder to control. I gave that one to a family member.

I recently found another, police surplus 10-6 heavy barrel, with some scratches but not a lot of wear to the finish. I tried to tell myself I didn’t need it, but really, the price was too good to pass up. And the DA trigger is sublime. More smooth than a few older and more obscure Smiths I played with on the same day. So that one came home with me for $230. Turns out, the heavy barrel agrees with me, and it’s a pleasure to shoot.

I would like to try something less extreme than this on my lesser model 10. I want to keep the barrel down to about 3" and not shorten the ejector, have a a basic fixed sight installed, and chop or round the grip. Haven't found a Smith to do the barrel work yet.

Photos of the guns alluded to in the post immediately preceding the last one. The model 10 has good practical accuracy, is well proportioned for a good, versatile, and available cartridge, has fantastic old-school build quality, and is fairly affordable, to top it all off. It’s really hard to argue with as a revolver platform, IMO.
