Hi,

With the friction rings set for light load on an A5 Magnum, will 2-3/4'' 00 Buckshot have enough power to cycle the action?

How effective is 00 Buckshot out of a SxS shotgun? I am planning to pattern the barrels on my older Brno SxS. For these types of guns, does shooting 00 buckshot eventually wear out the locking mechanism and damage the soldering of the barrels?

Thanks for the help.

You're going to be really slamming that A-5's bolt and barrel around by using the 'light load setting' with 00 buckshot. I think you meant to say 'heavy load setting', yes? Shouldn't be a problem. Suggest setting your rings up for 'heavy' loads and, then, running 4 or 5 shells through the shotgun.

For the A5 Magnum model, it says here that you use the lighter rings setup with heavy 2&3/4" loads. Most buck loads are heavy so yeah, that should work. There are reduced recoil buckshot loads, which may cycle or not--try them to find out.

Thanks for the help. Any idea on 00 buck in a SxS and if it would damage a sidelock?

Doubtless someone will be along to address that. I have no firsthand knowledge of BRNO sidelock doubles, so I can offer only a vague general remark. BRNO guns are in general well made and US buckshot shells, though some are rather stoutly loaded, conform to SAAMI average pressure standards.

So put me down for a good solid "I don't know but it's likely not going to be a problem." The neat thing about this place is that sooner or later someone happens along who can give you a knowledgeable reply.

Quite as effective as from any gun, for the first two shots. :D The quicker and more convenient reloading of repeater types, and more ammo on board in the first place, makes me prefer them for the sorts of things I'd load buckshot to address.

Buckshot doesn't know or care what type of shotgun action is being used. The fact that buckshot is being used has nothing to do with wear. It is the amount of powder in the shell. Being that buckshot as a rule is a pretty stout load(lots of powder), it will wear out a SxS faster than a dove or target load. A good quality SxS can be shot thousands upon thousands of times before wearing out, so shooting some buckshot might wear out a SxS after 990,000 rounds as opposed to 1,000,000 rounds. I'm making these numbers up off the top of my head but you get the point. BRNO shotguns are excellent quality so you would have to shoot it as much as a serious competition skeet person to even think about wearing it out in a lifetime.
