Coye Knives, Jurassic World? ....

I'm curious to know what type of blade actor Chris Platt uses in the hit film: Jurassic World(2015). I saw the action film yesterday in 3D IMAX & the main character uses a small fixed blade knife that looks like either a Boker Ridgeback or Coye Forerunner .
No listing is posted for the blade on www.imfdb.org yet.

Coye Knives were a hotly debated topic here in 2014 & I'm not asking if they are worth the $$$ or how good the brand is. It's just to see if the Jurassic World knife is the same model.

BTW; I already know the Boker Ridgeback is a authorized Coye Knives design.

I'm sure those custom shops will be swamped with new orders after this film came out.

The Chris Pratt character knife is slick. I'm not sure about the leather carrier.

Another character(bad guy) looks like he has a floppy black leather case & black Ka-Bar blade, behind his back, .
I think maybe the wardrobe or prop master said; "hey, should these guys have sidearms"? Then Steven Speilberg or some on set wag said; oh heavens no, they should carry big knives, yeah knives, that's cool but not threatening.
Because parents shouldn't let young kids see anyone carrying a handgun then using it in a responsible way, .

 

Typical Hollywood idiocy. Wrong tool for the job, and the one's who think it's cool will buy them by the boat load (most will come from china).

When facing dinosaurs or dragons one needs a sword. Geesh anyone who's read Grimm's Fairytales knows that.

 

Custom knives ....

I checked a few knife forums & did some research. The custom knife designed by the KY guy won't be on any websites or shops any time soon .
The maker is a prop maker & film industry insider. The leather holder may be for sale, but the exact same knife style is not yet out there.

 

Gil Hibben ....

Custom knife maker Gil Hibben made a lot of $$$ with his Rambo & First Blood series blades.
His designs were marketed and popular in the 1980s/1990s.
From what I recall Hibben either had a dispute with Sly Stallone or the Rambo film producers over rights, knives, legal issues.
It might have been resolved. I think Hibben made a new field knife for John Rambo in Rambo(2008) but I might be wrong.

When I was a lower enlisted MP in the US armed forces, the term; Rambo knife was common. It meant any big blade or camp knife used for FTXs or deployments.

 

The simple fact that it wasnt a Chinese ripoff prop makes me happy.

Dennis from Dragon Leatherworks here. Saw this thread show up on a keyword search, so I figured I would swing in and say hello, and also answer any questions about the work I did for JW.

RustyShackleford commented about 3 posts up on the availability of the sheaths...they are available. As each is hand-fitted to provide perfect retention without straps of any sort, there is no worry with fitment or reteintion.

Of course, you have to send me your knife to have it fitted, and I sent the knife back with the completed sheath when done. Right now, lead time is running two weeks after the knife arrives at the shop.

I'd think with the huge success of Jurassic World, many product placement & custom made items would get a lot of new interest.

I read that Pratt has signed for 2 more Jurassic motion pictures so this might be a extended job.

No, that's not how it happens. Actors have as much say as they want in blade selection. Many have custom knives made themselves for their character.

I saw it in all the IMAX 3D splendor, with my veteran discount .
There are a bunch a cool firearms. I didn't want to mention any spoilers.

I thought one 12ga was a Kel Tec KSG but alas the InGen trooper uses a big USAS shotgun.
