tried to order a holster and a few other things online yesterday, kept getting declined. Called bank and sked they said was rejected for fraud. took holster out of basket and rest of the order went through. what's really odd I just ordered a barrel stock trigger and 2 scopes with no issues.

And as far as cash, dont get your hopes up. Biden signed that digital currency thing just recently, cash is likely on the way out in the not-to-distant future…

I predict, in the not to distant future, Biden’s no longer going to hold majorities in both Houses of Congress and with any luck those that fill the spots, understand they were put there in large part to cut down on .gov overreach. Both within and outside the laws.

They have weaponized the IRS and “Justice” department already, politically, and they are just getting started. Just stepping stones towards the final goal, complete control of all subjects…controlling our money with computer code will help them out immensely, so I completely understand why they want to as well as why so many don’t want them to have that ability.

This thread has gone down a rabbit hole. Some good info has been shared. Later all. out.

SGammo - no problem
Mag Shack - no problem
Target sports - no problem
Prepay visits to shooting range - no problem
Wife tries to charge $35 at Bed Bath & Beyond - I get a text wanting me to verify its not fraud. :D They know me. :)

Credit card fraud is rampant. The credit card companies try to mitigate the damage by monitoring account patterns. Unusually large charges, items not usually bought by the account holder, from far away places, that sort of thing. None of it targeting things they don't like, except potentially fraudulent charges they might have to eat.

My personal experience has been over decades. I've had my card locked for very large unexpected charges and a quick call put things back on track immediately. In other cases the use of small vendors who don't have the wherewithal to maintain good security practices leak credit card information resulting in actual fraud attempts on my cards over the years. In each case the resolution has been 100% restitution quickly, and a new card and number.

The real pain in the butt is having to update all the scheduled credit charges for services like internet, light bill, etc every time it happened. And it happened a lot. I solved that problem by changing all of them to paypal or to a checking account. Several years in and no more trouble.

OP - it's not part of new legislation. The card companies care only about money what they have to do to protect theirs. That's all.
I don't care if it is locked for potential fraud. I don't mind the transaction not going thru for potential fraud. I don't mind calling the next day to get it turned on. What I do mind is getting it blocked and locked out of my account access when it has only been on gun related purchases, one for $300, one for $200 something and one for a $50 lower parts kit. I make all sorts of purchases over those amounts for other stuff and no block. May be time to leave Credit Union I have been with for 45 yrs.

I appreciate the CC company watching out for fraud and letting me know. But if a gun related purchase was declined I would change CC companies and I would let the old company know why I changed.

I mean the credit card company can’t actually see an itemized list of what you are buying. Just the total and who you are paying.

I’ve had my card flagged before but they usually contact me right away and ask me to confirm the charge then they let it go though. These days it’s a simple text I can reply to.

It also tends to be learned behavior. There was a period in my early 20’s when basically nothing would flag because I guess my cc company concluded I was just a bit eccentric.

What companies are you buying from? There are lots of fraudulent online vendors. The credit card companies only make money when they process transactions.

Sadly I don't have a Scheels. If I did I would have their card. :)

It can be used anywhere...it's a credit card. I used to live near a Scheels store but have since moved out of that state. I still use the card for online purchases, and if I'm going to pay interest I'd rather that money go to the issuer of the Scheel's card (First National Bank Of Omaha) instead of some flaky 'woke' corporation.

Thanks something for thought. Was always using my Cabela's card then started using my Harley Davidson card. Had more Harley junk than I needed with points so went back to using my Cabela's card. Wife uses the Amazon card for all her stuff. Been thinking after the first of the year start using something else. :) Have a local Cabela's and I guess since Scheels has online shopping I could try them just as easily.

Thanks
Ron

My wife's card was compromised 3X. Had several $1,000 at a liquor store in DC and a bunch in Pennsylvania and some in Texas. We live in Kansas. I had extra tip charges from a dinner I had in Tulsa, that I contested. Seems the wait staff gave themselves a raise. My wife has had to change several monthly auto pays again and again when the card is compromised. We had money stolen out of our checking acct following a trip to Europe where my debit card was copied at a BANK in Italy. All of these events were a large PIA, but none of them, not one, cost us a dime. Recently I've bought a few guns, some scopes, paid for a gun repair, and some ammo; all without problems. Most CC companies work night and day protecting us from CC fraud. And I've never paid a cent in CC interest. My primary card is Cabela's and has been pretty much flawless. I feel bad for you guys who are having problems. Three suggestions: #1 Pay in cash at the store as much as possible especially when dealing in shooting sports. #2 Dump the card, get another, there are million of them out there. #3 PROSECUTE OFFENDERS and do so harshly for repeat offenders. As a psychologist I used to do psych evals for court in my area and watched over and over as the judge ignored my recommendations for deterrent punishment because in their minds, CC fraud is a "victimless" crime.

I don't think it was locked but recently when I decided to buy a generator from Walmart online at 10:30pm, the CC company did contact me to make sure it was a legitimate purchase.

The generator showed up broken but that's a different story.

My credit union is tops for this type of stuff. My card got hacked a few times and they were right on top of it. I even walked in to the bank (without an appointment) and was able to get a sit down on the spot regarding what had happened. Credit unions are a nice way to go.

Lowe's and Home Depot are huge for fraudulent CC use. Perps purchase gift cards with stolen or lifted CC. Should not even be allowed to purchase a $1000+ gift card on a CC anyway, IMOHO.

I agree that fraudulent credit card use is prevalent. However, I disagree that you shouldn’t be able to purchase a $1000+ gift card with a credit card just because some perps have used stolen credit cards to do so. They could also use stolen credit cards to purchase $1000+ in merchandise. They can also use stolen cash to purchase $1000+ in gift cards. If anything, perhaps require that the CC match the buyer’s drivers license or something to that effect.

I've pulled most of my money out of my banks, merely using them to direct-deposit my checks and pay my regular bills.

I started doing this when they cut their operating hours so that I couldn't do in-person banking, then further reduced my deposits when they started getting hinky about "allowing" firearm-related purchases.

Banks and credit cards are supposed to be there for MY convenience, not for THEIR agendas... .

LOL. I think you got that last part backward. :p

If you think about it, all the bank mostly does is transfer some numbers on a computer around, and once in a while, maybe, if you ask real nice and put in an "order" for it (what? you think they will give you any kind of real money just because you ask?) , give you some basically worthless, paper and copper, if you just gotta have "cash". Last I heard, it cost more to make a penny than its worth. The bills, of any denomination, cost about $0.02 to make.

Of course, they are just a sorta extension of the Fed and basically charge you fees and interest on sorts of made up silliness, and numbers just PFA. And if you're imaginary numbers go negative, yea boy! they jam you extra good for extra nothing. Thats "double secret silliness" to you! :p

And "then", theres the CC companies, and other various and devious methods they use to get you to enslave yourself to them.

Yea boy! They are there for your convenience and just to help you!

Hop in! :D

Also, writing a check. Most places won't take a check for a gift card, any gift card. Wife and I use credit cards all the time to purchase gift cards but none I recall over $500. A friend and neighbor works for a supermarket chain and they will not accept a check for a gift card in any amount. They got tired of fraud checks. :)

I pay no fees or interest because I never carry a balance.
Banks hate people like me - call us 'deadbeats'.
Anyway, I almost never buy firearms or major components unless I examine them closely and in person, so buying on-line is rarely a consideration.
-And - if my credit card refuses to complete a purchase that is in-person, cash always works... .

I don't think your problem was gun related purchases, fraud is on the rise very badly, in fact my VISA just got used in fraud a few weeks ago and I don't even use it for gas buying so I doubt a skimmer was the problem, I have many customers who have been having issues with their cards being hacked often lately also. Be glad the card companies are catching it for the most part and are covering the fraud under protection.

It might be a good idea to add a pin to your credit card so you can have extra protection and also have the capability to turn it off when you don't need it. I don't have a debit card and never will and still use cash for my main budget as much as I can but things come up where you need a card so just be careful and watchful as much as you can.

Attention ALL : Certain CC companies have in fact BEGUN tracking and denying weapon & ammo purchases and the closer it gets to Nov. 8 Th. most of us WON'T be able to purchase . Major banks BOA Chase WellsFargo and ANY Major banks who distribute Visa, Mastercard and American Express are IN ON IT !.
Individual banks credit unions and such who have the power to issue cards ,NOT SO MUCH . It's known as " MCC ",aka merchant category code !.

The donks will push it through courts as legal ,stating straw or stolen card purchases are Rampant ,just another Russia Russia hoax but it's NEVER stopped them from lying before .

I have two credit cards offered by two different airlines via Barclays. Both cards have stopped me from making purchases at gun stores. I have paid off both cards and they currently reside in my safe awaiting the credit card company to realize I will not use them snd they will eventually cancel those cards. This way my credit rating isn’t impacted.

I have a Cabela’s Club card thst I use for gun related purchases.

My wife has gotten CC calls at home when I attend out of state shows, but we got a "just checking" call early this week when I bout a case of ammo on-line. That never happened before. Wasn't a problem, but I didn't like it.

Maybe it is time to contact customer service (number on the back of your credit card) and find out what is wrong with your account instead of just assuming they shut off your card and blocked your access because of gun-related purchases. The same thing can happen if they believe your account is hacked.
