Well I decided to get a .22 pistol and settled on the CO2 2240. I like my 1377 but get tired of pumping and even at 10 pumps and magnum pellets it has trouble swinging my auto reset target.

I have to say I like it a lot, very easy to cock and shoot. It isn't nearly as loud as i expected and has a lot of energy at the target, easily swings the target arms.

I got my 8 year old daughter a daisy buck a few months back because she like shooting the 1377 with me, she uses a rest. Unfortunately she didn't take to the buck like I thought but I bet she will like the 2240 and I won't have to pump so much.

Are there any issues with leaving a charged cylinder with CO2 in the gun for a week or two?

it wont harm the gun any....but the CO2 may leak out over the course of a week or so...especially as the gun gets some use and the seals start to wear.

They are a lot of fun. I have a Crosman 2400KT from the custom shop which is basically a fancy 2240. It gets shot more than any other gun I have.

I thought about ordering a 2300KT from the custom shop, my version was right at $200, but decided to try the stock $60 model before I went that route. Seems to be a great plinker.

I started with the 2240, then progressed to the 2300T and 2400T Carbine. All good guns. My 2240 is still in stock form, unmodified.
I find good deals on bulk buys of co2 cartridges online. MUCH cheaper than buying locally. Keeps me shooting more!
The 2260 rifle makes a very nice companion for the 22XX pistols too.

I like CO2 pellet guns a lot. Down here is southeast Texas it is almost always warm enough to shoot CO2.

Regarding leaving a CO2 cartridge compressed against the seal after piercing, I left a pistol in that condition by accident for a few weeks. That gun became a leaker. You put in a cartridge and you have maybe 10 to 15 minutes of shooting before the gas hisses all the way out.

Now, I shoot all gas out of a cartridge within a day (if possible) and then take the pressure off the seal. For CO2 guns that I want "ready to go" I install a cartridge but don't pierce the seal until I need to.

Tell me more about the pistol.

What pellets do you shoot?
How many shots do you get out of a CO2?
What kind of groups will you get @ 25 yards?

I have the 2400KT:
  • Crosman Premier hollow point pellets (because they are available at WalMart)
  • 40 rounds per CO2 cylinder (I can shoot more but the point of aim starts dropping quickly after 40)
  • At 10 meters I can get a 5 shot group will all the holes touching on a good day.

Once you get your 22XX pistol you can install some very good upgrades.
Steel breech, which allows installing either a much better grade of aperture or open sight, or a good optical sight/scope.
DO a good internal polish job on the trigger and sear, and do the basic spring guide mod.
There are others for the serious AG enthusiast.

The custom shop 2240 that I had from Crosman was very nice. Just lost interest in c02 after a bit.

+1
I store my air compressor tank with 20-30 psi when I'm not using it. I store multipump pneumatics with a pump or two. But I leave my CO2 guns dry.
