    It Ain't Over

Take a deep breath. We did okay. Gave it a shot. Didn't win today, but there's always tomorrow.

Already, the plans are in the works.

I've had calls from Big Guys in the lat 30 minutes
. Working to have one of the biggest (you all know his name) on the radio Sunday. Hard to put these together.

I'll post it on THR if it comes about.

The gun maker protection part will be back. There are a number of ways to do it. Just depends on how hardball they want to get. There are upsides and downsides to each approach, but there ARE several approaches being worked on right now.

Won't it be fun to see how CNN/MSNBC/Reuters, etc., have to backpedal on the "news" stories about the passage of the AWB?

Open a cool one. This was a draw. We are still in the fight.

It's dead & that's good. It's not great for the manufacturers but recently bottom feeding lawyers have been getting savaged in the media for their frivilous lawsuits on other industries (fast food, tobacco, auto, etc). Hopefully the court of public opinion will continue to do so in the case of the gun manufacturers.

Not a great trade off but certainly not the end of the world as it was looking like earlier.

yea .. I'm not happy about that .. one of those times it sucks to be right .. but I think they new a clean version would pass .. and they didn't want that .. so they put a bunch of bs amendments on it so it wouldn't ..

sigh .. and the battle continues ..

On your first point, I wouldn't have called it the "best" way to renew the AWB, but this bill was the "easiest" way to have done it.

I am hoping that it will be harder for the gungrabbers to get enough support between now and September.

It's going to be a long year.

I suspend judgement for now, but it appears maybe the system DID work. Fought them to a draw. Better than we've done for awhile.

Final vote on amended S. 1805

    S. 1805, which gave gun mfgs, dealers, and distributors immunity from frivolous lawsuits aimed at destroying the firearm industry with court and other legal costs, after being amended with a renewal of the 1994 assault weapons ban, a so called ‘loop-hole' closure for gun shows across America, an amendment which would require child safety locks be sold with every handgun, and more has failed.

    Yays: 8

    Nays: 90

    S. 1805 has failed, but it took an AWB renewal attempt, gun show 'loop-hole' closure attempt, and a child safety lock req down with it.

Boats has it right. THIS is the important list, not the 1805 vote. Hammer these critters starting TODAY no matter what your party affiliation is. Ms. Fine... is gonna come back hard and quick with another vote on AWB.

    Larry Craig was awesome.

My respect for him went through the roof.

He tried all he could to pass a clean bill.

Ok, so the lawsuit protection bill is dead, thanks to the many worthless ammendments attached to it...

Umm, why don't we ever pull this kinda stunt?? Why can't we add lawsuit protection as an ammendment to some other bill?? Why didn't we kill AWB #1 in the same way, say by attaching an ammendment to repeal the NFA'34 or some such??

The technique seemed to work well for the antis today, so why don't we adopt it ourselves?

I don't post much, but this is a special occasion and I have something to say:

    AARRRGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Why am I always surprised when politicians act like politicians?

Dear Lord, I will vow to make more calls, write more letters, send more checks, and buy more guns. :fire:

    Amen

Just remember Kennedy's rant from his first day with the AP ban.

He says that it might not be this bill, but there will be another....and another....and another. One way or the other he will see his AP ammo ban.

Time to start watching for amendments.

    My letter to Sen. Warner:

    Sen. Warner,

How does it feel to have been used by Sen. Feinstein to help the Democrats defeat S.1805? By supporting and speaking in favor of an amendment that would renew the Assault Weapons Ban, you ensured that S.1805 would not pass. Yet, somehow, that was not enough - you even voted 'Aye' for Sen. McCain's "Ban Against Private Individuals Selling Rifles and Shotguns" amendment.

Shame on you, Senator, for voting against the best interests of law-abiding Virginians, against the best interests of liberty, and for furthering the nonsensical concept that criminals obey firearm laws.

While I am not a resident of Virginia, it is my sincere hope that there is someone running against you in your next primary season so that I may contribute to their campaign.

    Respectfully,

    xxx
