Cuomo's approval rating plummets...

I read yesterday that he knew his rating would plummet over the new law and was perfectly fine with it.

For once....I wish he was like any other politician and was more concerned about his approval rating more than anything else. If he was, he would have never even attempted to pass that law.

No pun intended, I'm sure.

The drop from 74% to 59% isn't nearly what I'd hoped to find when I clicked on the link, but at least it's something. I won't dig into it now, but I wouldn't be surprised with the way people rally after disaster if the 74% had to do with Hurricane Sandy and was abnormally high.
 
Fortunately, other governors do act like politicians and care about approval rations. We can hope they'll see this as a warning.
 
I'm just hoping that alot of folks that wouldn't have cared about or might have supported a magazine restriction saw NY as the next step.

It sucks for people in NY but probably helped those in the rest of the country
 
Interesting article if you read through it. He decided 10 rounds was too many, and changed the maximum to seven. I wonder how long it'll take him to realize you can do with seven the same damage you can do with ten, and decide we really don't need magazines at all. After all, any good "hunter" knows all it takes to kill a deer is one round. Just hand feed the thing and that still allows you to bear arms, right? The Constitution doesn't really address the problem of bearing magazines, after all.
 
Interesting that he was prepared to do something that he knew would meet with disapproval.
Aren't they supposed to represent the wishes of their constituents?

Once again the antis do whatever they deem necessary to further their crusade, because they Know They Are Right.

He didn't pick 7 because he thought it was right or reasonable. More likely he went that direction because 7<10, and 6<The number that had a good chance of passing. Remember, "reasonable" gun control is incremental. At one time, 10 was reasonable. Now it's 7. I'll let you guess what's next.
 
Approval rating? Who needs an approval rating when you view yourself as a monarch?
 
After watching a few minutes of his crazed-eyes, maniacal delivery on gun control, I seriously question his national appeal as a prospective presidential candidate. I also recall that that kind of hysteria was the downfall of Howard Dean’s bid.

But I also thought that Obama did not have a snowball’s chance for a 2nd term. Then again, Como is no Barack Obama.
 
He pissed away any chance at a presidential election. That's why I don't get him passing this law.

I wish him and Bloomberg where on my boat when it sank.
 
The gun grabbers came out of the closet on December 14th and showed their true colors.
They thought the nation would rally around them--if I was a betting man I would predict that they are going to lose this round.

This. It was a severe miscalculation. They thought that Sandy Hook would be the turning point for the nation as a whole and that a vast majority of people would be on board with stringent gun control.

Part of the problem with politicians like Cuomo is that they completely surround themselves with like-minded people. When everyone you hang out with and talk to is eagerly anti-gun, you start to get the feeling that its a universally held belief. He probably honestly felt like it would be a popular move on a national scale that he could use to springboard his presidential campaign.
 
If he polls well in the "blue states," he may well not care about the alienated voters in more pro-2A"red states". Assuming he could survive the primaries, he could pull 140 of the necessary 270 electoral votes just from NY, CA, MD, NJ, MA, CT, DE, RI. Toss in the states that have gone blue for the last several elections (OR, WA, IL, PA, OH, etc...), then Cuomo is already getting alarmingly close to 270 (remember, the anti-2A cities could push the electoral votes regardless of the votes "plain folk" in the rest of the state). Once again, Florida will be the swing state.

So, Cuomo's extreme anti-gun position will play well with the liberal base, and may also be a calculated gamble that any states he "loses" either have minimal electoral college votes, or weren't his to "win" anyway.

So don't count Cuomo out (assuming he could survive the primaries) even if he is taking extreme anti-2A positions. He's counting on the cities to swing votes in key states ...
 
If he gets elected president,will he try to disarm the rest of the country? anything obama doesnt accomplish he might try to.But he cannot just push anything through,he still needs congress.i cant even think this far ahead & dont want to...
 
Obama wants to be seen as doing something, but I can not imagine that Senate Democrats from gun friendly states up for election in 2016 are going to do much. I think many 2014 Senate Democrats just want the whole thing to go away, there is really no way for them to come out looking good. If they push for strong legislation, they are condemned by the opposing side. If they just sit on there hands, they gain the support of neither side.

Pro gun voters are more likely to be single issue voters, and a single issue voting block can be the kiss of death in a close mid-term election.

I think he went with 7 because both Kimber and Remington are based in NY and sell 1911s.
 
What does he care? I am sure Bloomberg will hire him to wind the electric clock at $200 million a year.

Doesn't matter...

He, like all career (pops no less) knows that "approval" ratings have little or nothing to do with re-election. It's all about getting the short sighted, ad/sound bite oriented American voter-lemmings to pay attention to the campaign and not the record.

He can "fall on his sword" for "cred" in the middle of the term and then get the ad/bite machine rolling for the next election... whatever position he runs for next.
 
Big deal.

Ratings come and go. All he has to do is pass another bill that says that kids are more adorable than kittens and his approval rating will go back to where it was before. A temporary dip is not indicative of anything.

I should add though, that I hope my Gov. (Malloy) sees the dip in ratings and it scares him away from pushing similar laws here in CT.
