Hello, I just got my C&R licence today. I have a quick question. My licence included a book containing a list of guns that classify for a C&R. The book is dated December 2007. Unless I'm reading it wrong, it says that the cut off date for pistols and revolvers is 1946.

My understanding was that the C&R was for guns 50 years or older. Shouldn't the date be 1956 for 2007? What am I not getting?

I apologize if my question sounds ignorant...

Also hold a C&R & my understanding of the law is precisely as you state. 50 years is the general qualifier, tho some newer firearms MAY be designated C&R by special notice of BATFE.

Unless I've misread the law, the firearms also must be in their original configuration.

50 years date creaps along every calender year. #1 on page 2 of the brown book you received states, "Firearms which were manufactured at least 50 years from the current date..." The current date changes every January unless you have an actual born-on date. I did have an actual mm/dd/yy born-on date for a rifle but didn't need it since the rifle qualified as specifically listed by model. Of course these are just my opinions and I didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn Express. Congratulations, you will enjoy it. When in doubt, ask the questions like you just did. If your gut doesn't like the answers, feel free to call BATFE. They don't bite for asking and might have some tips or a written ruling for gray areas.

I got my license last month, with a letter saying the info packet will be coming shortly.

Now, I'm pretty well read on the applicable laws re: C&R and already have a bound book set up, and just ordered my first rifle (SMLE from J&G). Should I contact BATFEIEIO and see what the holdup is? Any info contained in that packet that I haven't already found on the various internet C&R resources?
