Custom Mosin Nagant, anyone?

Yeah, stuff like that. I'd like to make my own stock from scratch, if I could convince the wood shop teacher that I am well-meaning. The hardest part I see is inletting the stock, which would take some work. If I can't do it at school, I guess I'm just using what I got. If I ever took on the project, I would bed the action and float the barrel (but, from what you all tell me, that'd be hardly beneficial with a shot-out bore). Maybe I should just buy a 10/22 for another $40 or so. Tons of extras for those.

This Mosin came out great! But I sold it two years ago; never liked the safety device.

This rifle shot 3" groups at 100 yards (original sights) with Silver Bear hunting ammo.

What Gordon Freeman says...............I have several Mosin Nagants that will beat 1.5 inch groups easily that are stone stock so why bother to bubba one.....chris3

35W, is that a M39 front sight on the first rifle? If so, how did you mount it?

I'm gonna shoot my 91/30, but I plan on keeping it in good condition to pass down to my kids/grand kids and whatnot. I'm only 23 now and it's already almost a century old and the value can only go up. There are a billion of them but they may be hard to find in another 60-70 years in working condition.

Thanks for that photo......That is without a doubt, the nicest looking MN, I've ever seen

I'm not usually into bubbasins but T.R's is actually well done.

Did you do it yourself? If so, how long did it take you to do?

35 W, your aperture sight here looks a lot neater than my poor boy ghost I made up many years ago for K98 I scouted. :D

I intend to buy a pair of 91/30s. one is going to stay military configuration and the other one is going to get a boyds thumbhole sporter stock. it was pretty difficult to find a picture of one with that setup but with the one and only picture I found(in the high road's archives somewhere) it was love at first sight.

I could never afford it, but I'd love to stick a Tikka Master Sporter stock on mine...

If I were going to go through all the trouble of rebuilding an old rifle it would be a an old Mauser not a Mosin, why? Accuracy is sure to be better thanks to the higher quality action, controled round feed, robust mauser extractor claw, and they just look a heck of alot better sitting on a black walnut stock. IMHO the Mosin has too rough an action to ever be something I would ever want to put any real work/money into, give me an M98 anyday.

You need to get off the computer and go to Big 5 right now and buy a Mosin! Life is too short, my friend. Get one for your wife, too! Then customize the living heck out of it!
I bought an inexpensive kit for mounting a scope on a Mosin. So... I had to buy another Mosin, because I did not want to mess up my first one, which I like!
They are cheap and lots of fun. They are from an era in history where "close enough was good enough", so don't expect any super tight groups.

Good Luck on your mission!

Here is mine that I did a few years back. I made the stock by splicing in a PSL stock and making my own forend. I used a Rock Solid mount and bolt body. I used one of the UK-59 machine gun barrels that TGI was selling a while back. The thing is a dream to shoot and I got the trigger down to about 1lb without any creep. Without further adieu here is the original Monster Mosin.

It is an M39 sight. I took the original front sight base/bayonet mount, hacksawed off the bayonet mounting ears, then turned it down on my lathe until the M39 sight would fit it.

Hey...looks like it works, that's all that matters!
