I picked up a nice old 1927 Sistema Colt a few weeks back that I'd like to get refinished and possibly have some light custom work done. The gun's all matching with no import marks, so I don't wanna bubba it up too much, just a re-blue or hard chrome re finish job and possibly upgrading the small GI sights on the pistol.

The cost associated with shipping hand guns as a non FFL are REDICULOUS in my opinion, so I'd like to have the work done by someone in Minnesota or Western Wisconsin.

Can anyone recommend a 'smith they've worked with?

Ahlmans in Morriston is the placed to go in minnesota.
they have a website with pricing and such.
I believe that many gunshops send their stuff there.

There are few good gunsmiths I would recommend to you all have done work for me!
Alhmans is great (as mentioned), but they are 40 miles south of the cities. too. They do great S&W revolver work! A friend has 22 down being reblued as I write. If you have not been to Alhmans it is worth the trip for sure, plus you can always sneak down to Cabelas, yeah I know you will pass one on the way.

Another option is a fellow, Palmor Raysnor 4110 Main Street St. Bonifacious MN 55375 952-446-1435 hours 11-5p The door is around back behind the front of the building. He does excellent work, too and woud be a tad easier for you to sneak down from Zimmerman. You can sneak down back roads.

Another option in the Metro would be Randy Hengl [email protected], He is Territorial Gunsmithing 733 6th Ave South Hopkins, MN 952-931-9451 He has pretty flexible hours. He does Duracoat, too! Pretty easy to find off of 169 and Excelsior Blvd.

Thanks for the info fellows.

I checked out Alhman's web site. After looking at the pictures it seems I might need to mosey on down there just to check out that shop if nothing else!
