Hey Guys
Ran into a 54cal CVA never fired scoped $150.00 any thoughts?::confused:
 
randy wakeman is a bafoon. The cva's that had problems with barrels were in 1995 and 1996 and involved inlines of those years only.

With it having a scope, it must be an inline? If so, what model?
 
I have a .54 CVA percussion that is tapped for a scope and it shoots great. It has a synthetic stock and is very light weight. I have fired 100 grains of FFG with a PRB and the accuracy was good as well.
 
Frontiergander-- I agree. I am glad someone else said it first. Reading his stuff just makes me cringe. Wakeman on bullets-- "bore sized projectiles are the very worst muzzleloading projectiles available" (powerbelt bullets/ on chuckhawks). I don't think millions upon millions of game animals would agree. Maybe in technical, hypothical, theoretical wonder world. They work just fine for me. I like to keep my pistol bullets in my pistol and my smokeless in my smokeless rifles (wakeman loves his savage ml in smokeless). He has probably forgotten more about shooting than I'll ever know but his writing is just not for me.
 
Type and make

It is a Hawken type rifle and so far I can't find out what model.I have a CVA inline and I know the true story on the barrels.This rifle is in my buddies gun safe so I will get to check it out a little better.
Timing is everthing I just picked up a TC New Englander 12Ga/50cal and the gun fund is weak.I need to sell one of the kids:banghead:
 
if its a hawken type, they do not have any barrel issues. Have any pictures? Maybe if you call CVA they can help you out with figuring out what you have.
 
No barrel issues Hope is a 54 Moutain rifle and they didn't mess it up when they drilled for the scope.I know the guy that owns it and he is a perfectionist only we sometimes disagree on whats perfect.I can't hardly find any CVA ML for sale to compare it to.
I really need to get it in my hands
 
gru, i am sighting in my mountain rifle right now but as soon as i get back i will post a picture for you the compare it. For $150 that is a great deal for a .54cal. For patched round balls, the .54 is a great meat getter.
 
For comparison, my .50 CVA Hawken, built from a kit in 1982:

The Mountain rifle had German silver furniture, two barrel keys and no patchbox. Both came in .50 and .54.
 
Picked up my big bore for $175 shipped. Even has a curly maple stock! Pretty darn nice rifles. I will be invested a little over $200 in to it but its just personal stuff i want to do.
