Hey guys and gals!
New here and just wanted to share.
Went into a local pawnshop, where I JUST missed buying a Navy black powder pistol and holster for $150.
Anyway...saw this cva bobcat, looked it over, saw it was made in 2005,AND NEVER FIRED!
Paid $75 out the door. Now time to find out its sweet load, and if others are right, file the front sight.
Giving up inlines, and going back to where I started. Next is probably a kit hawken or pedersoli percussion shotgun.

Sorry to be the nanny here but it would be nice if you could post your pics right side up. I am just an old fart stickler.

That's a good deal if the trigger pull weight is less than 20 lbs. like mine was. LOL!
I wouldn't file the sight down until I shot targets out to at least 50 yards.
A lot of folks including myself placed some weight inside of the buttstock to absorb recoil.
I wasn't the only one getting hangfires with that model.
I wish that I had some of those magnum caps at the time, or if you load with real black
that should also help with ignition compared to Pyrodex P.
I think that I changed out the nipple and rear sight too, but each gun is different anyway.
Good luck and let us know how it works out.

I have a Hot Shot nipple on mine and it works fine with Pyrodex 'P'. Shoot it before you mess with the sights, as articap says. I hadn't thought about shot in the stock, I've done that on Trap guns. One or two shots isn't a problem, and there's time between shots, LOL.
I picked mine up for $50, It's my backup M/L to my Traditions Hawken.

the new cva inline rubber recoil pads fit onto this rifle if recoil is an issue. Adjustable the trigger is simple with a single cut bastard file. Just shave the back of the tumber where the full cock engagement notch is and carefully remove material. I got the last bobcat down to around 4lbs, if not less.

I'd be real careful about filing on the tumbler, a good quality sharpening stone is a better choice. It will remove material slowly which is what you want. I don't know if CVA case hardens their tumblers or tempers them. If it's case hardened once you go through the hard layer parts will wear very quickly. Keep in mind that it's easy to remove metal but hard to put it back.

Trigger pull was HEAVY.
Took out the assembly, used fine Emery cloth and polished down a bit,got it to probably 2-3lbs. Really just some burrs on machines parts.
Front blade was horrible high...fired 3 shot groups at 25yards ...filed a little at a time, till grouped well and backed out to 50 and 75. Shooting PRB with 80grains pyrodex, getting that first shot of each group within an inch at all distances, and the 3 shot groups are within 2".
Gotta add weight to the stock...recoil is stout after a few rounds.
Over all I'm pleased.
Shooting as well as my inline.

I got one for my 10 y.o. granddaughter and cut off ~2" of the stock and epoxied/screwed on a recoil pad. It shoots PRBs or MaxiBalls really accurate at 50 yards with 50 gr. of 3F black powder. Trigger pull is about 6 lbs.

I bought it because of the price, and its tradional.
Wasn't expecting such a good shooter!
Maybe it's because I'm 50,and wiser, but I just got tired of all the "latest" in archery and muzzleloaders,so decided to return to how I started...traditional.
After years of inlines and pellets,I'm rediscovering the fun and excitement,by pulling out my speed loaders, powder measured etc etc.
Not k locking the newer stuff, but just appreciate the hunt now, more than the harvest.

We often focus on what's wrong with stuff, but when only paying $75, it's just goes to show that having fun doesn't need to come with a high price tag attached.
Don't look a gift horse in the mouth! Just enjoy it!

now that is awesome! I to got bored with the inline stuff. Now im dressing up in buckskins and moccasins and going hunting. The looks you get are priceless.

Glad you made the change, I was never fond of the zip guns or the attitude that went with them. There's so much more to the traditional stuff than pouring powder down the barrel. Show up to a fur trade rendezvous in camo with an inline and you will really feel the hostility. I did enjoy going into the local convenience store in 1830s garb and watching the looks one gets. I look forward to being able to do it again.
