Cylinder alignment issue?-Walker

    Hi all, hope someone can help me out here. I am new to the Walker revolver world and am wondering.....I was looking at a ASM model (used) and noticed when looking down the barrel that the cylinder mouth was not in perfect alignment with the barrel. How big an issue is this and is it a fairly easy process to fix, and how? How much misalignment is acceptable, any? Thanks in advance

    If the cylinder isn't rotating all the way, then it's a carry-up problem.

    The second stage of the hand may not be rotating the cylinder enough. It would require peening to stretch it so it can (but that may require the top portion of the hand to be shortened as it would initiate the rotation too soon).
    The trigger's sear (sear is part of the trigger on a Colt) may be too short too, throwing off the timing.
    Or it could be the bolt is not dropping down too soon (you will feel it if there a drag before the cylinder rotates).

    As long as the entire chamber mouth is aligned within the circumference of the forcing cone, it will shoot without spitting lead. Acceptable is a term relative to the individual.

    Again "easy" being relative, fixing an under/overclocked alignment issue (assuming all six chambers misaligned identically) would require modification of the bolt window in the frame and would likely require a new bolt to be fitted. A new hand may also be required due to the unique timing characteristics shared by the Walker, Whitneyville, and 1st model Dragoons.

    If the alignment issue is up and down, in that the axis of the chambers are closer to the arbor than the axis of the bore is, (a common issue found in early reproductions, especially with the pocket model colts) there really is not much you can do other than ramp down the bottom of the forcing cone.
