CZ 40 or Styer m-40 or fn-49

I had a CZ 40 that I got on a deal but it just wasn't for me. The Steyer 40 looks promising but I ended up buying a H&K compact 40.
 
I'd take the CZ40 over the Steyr. Don't know about you, but when I checked out the M40, it's got the blockiest design of all the plastic fantastics. Strange sights also...

Never seen a FN49, but I've read at the TFL that it's only a marginal performer. Try to search the TFL archives.

Well Im confused about something......the Steyr and FN are kinda the same shape/style poly doa carry kinda thing......the CZ40 is an alloy framed, 1911 gripped fullsize CZ....the opposite of the others in everything but caliber.
If youve been cruising the gun auctions...I know why youre confused...alot of people call the CZ100 a CZ40! Not the same gun. The CZ100 IS LIKE the others. Poly/doa bla bla bla.

Now for personal opinions....

The FN is a class act. Designed by the guy who did the Sigma for S&W years ago....looks the same..but not even close in internals.
FN is an outstanding maker of arms..the 49 has a very nice trigger once they are broken in and the rest of the gun follows suit. True second strike trigger...unlike S&W, Glock, Kahr etc...meaning everytime you pull the trigger you get the striker to fire. Hell at a store close to me they have the 40 with nights for 339$....good deal.
The Steyr is in the same league....maybe a little higher. Steyr guns were the first to offer the striker fired guns....way long ago.
They have the technology few have these days....The gun has a different sight arrangement, lower bore axis for less recoil (it works too) and is priced about the same as the FN. Another good choice.
The CZ100 (Ill bet thats what you are talking about) Great gun...ok to poor trigger. Smaller/slimmer than the rest and cheaper too. Absolutely reliable, accurate and fits my hand a little better than the others. Real second strike trigger like the FN...the Steyr I believe is like that also but its been a while since Ive shot one....hmmmmm!
The CZ 40 is a damn fine gun...but is hit and miss among CZ'ers as the grip angle is so different. I personally love it and the 2 Ive shot are bloody nice guns. Great d/a trigger, light and great sights...accurate as hell....just a nice gun ...if the grip agrees with you.
For me they are all so freaking close in quality, price and function...you wont lose either way. FN and CZ offer the best support in the country, for what thats worth.

I have owned my M9 for about 15 months, and my M40 for 2 months. I have over 1800 rounds through my M9 with little to no problems. I did find out that it didn't like Wolf Ammo, but other then that the M9 has performed flawlessly. The M40 has done better then the M9 it has shot everything I have put into it. I think I have 900 rounds in my M40.

I got my M9 for $399 and the M40 purchased from CDNN for only $299. I almost bought two it is such a good price!!

I was disapointed when I recieved my M9 because of the sights. One of the things I liked so much about the Steyr handguns was their inovative sights. My pistol came with the 3 dot night sights. I did grow to really like the night sights, but I was bumming that I did not get the trapazoidal sights. Luckily my M40 has the regular sights. I have never found a gun that I shoot better then my M40. I called Odel Engineering, they are working on the Triangular Night Sights for the M series. They are hoping they will be available in the next few months.

The Sigma stinks. FN did the gun equivalent of hiring the designer of the Pinto.
 
I agree with the Sigmas left alot to be desired...it has credit for being the first wanna be Glock on the Block.
He took what was bad on the S&W, changed it and made a damn fine gun. If youve shot both the Sigma and the FN...youd know the difference......

The CZ40 is a variant of the CZ 75, internally. It is the product of a joint project with Colt from which Colt pulled out. I believe the short lived Colt version is called the Z40, and it is a collectible.

I have never shot the CZ40, but I've heard many good things about them. I do own a Steyr M40. It is a remarkable gun. It has a low barrel axis, which contributes to less muzzle flip and is quite ergonomic. It's frame is metal wrapped in polymer. The safety system includes a key lock that blocks firing and prevents disassembly, and includes a manual safety inside the trigger guard. It's sleek polymer exterior DOES make the slide look a little blocky on top, but it is a sweet shooter.

The funky sights take some getting used to :D
 
Im not saying the CZ40 is the 100....Ive seen people confuse them on Auction Sites....The comparison with the two similar Poly/DAO guns with the 40 didnt compute.......the 40 is nicer except for a CCW.....Id take the 100.

I have the Steyr M-40 and the CZ in .40. Depending on what you want it for should determine your selection. For a range gun CZ would be hard to beat. I also have had mine converted to SAO so I get a sweet trigger pull. The only downside to the CZ is the size when compared to the Steyr. The Steyr is a bit smaller and easier to conceal, but you do get the consistent trigger pull. The Steyr trigger can be improved (smoother and lighter) by a trained gunsmith. So for the range I would get the CZ, for carry go with the Steyr.
