Just ordered a CZ-40B from CDNN for $289.00 + $19.50 to ship and added an extra mag for $20.00. Just do good a deal to pass up. Looks like a 1911.

I have read good things about the 40B. Any comments?

40B...

Well schmek, I'll be waitin to hear how it compares to your 97B and your others...
Was also tempted at that price, plus burningsquirrels has nothing but 'raves' about the gun...
Problem for me, $$, I want your 97BD and a 75D Compact first... but I'll be waitin to hear your reviews!!!...
For me, it's still the 'extremes'... 9mmm and .45!

Does the CDNN CZ 40B already come with two 10-round magazines, or have they lifted one?
The 12-round mags that fit the CZ75B in .40 S&W fit the 40B just fine, and you can get them from MecGar for an off-key song.

They used to come with just one mag from CDNN and RSR.

I had one 2 yrs ago for a while. Great gun for the money. I didn't care for the caliber, and it took me another purchase of a 40 to figure it out. They originally came with 2-10rnd mags and case with brush. I put grips on from Hakan Pek. Do a google search and you'll see what great grips he makes for the gun and others.

hello, brother. :)

the cdnn 12 round meg-gar mags for the cz-75 40sw are the ones to get for $20.

carry it in a holster from HBE, or fobus RU-97 paddle. you may have luck with sig 226 holsters, though the slide stop will get in the way of certain snug-to-fit sig holsters.

when i run into more money, i will try to buy two or three more. one or two as a backup to my limited-10 comp gun, and one for open carry/home defense.

Burningsquirrels,

Been waitin' for ya. Thanks for the post. I'll PM you later, I have some questions.

I don't know what's happening to me, I don't understand why I keep buying these dern CZ's.

Buy the CZ40B and enjoy. I have had mine since spring and have put ~700 rounds through it without a problem. I think the 40b is the best .40 on the market for the $$$!

^^^ nice finish. i thought about refinishing my 40b in something other than black or nickel before, like a dark brown or maybe red, since it's just a comp gun anyways. it went from perfect in march when i bought it to showing some wear here and there from the old regular plastic holsters and from a newbie assembling/disassembling it too many times, lol. actually, do you know anyone that has machined their frame for deeper recesses beneath the trigger guard and beavertail?

I really like mine, can't believe how good it shoots. The only problem I've had is my 155 gr SWC lead reloads, jams ever now and then, but that's at the range and I can live with that. Been thinking of getting another one.

Only one word comes to mind, PCRCCW, BEAUTY!! I hope the new owner of your Cogan Custom is enjoying the bejabbers out of it. CZ 40Bs are still reasonably priced, if you can corner one. Only about 700 manufactured, instant collectable.

Cdnn ?

Smeky,

Sorry I have to ask, but who is CDNN? I'd like to order one too. Just got a 97B last month, my first CZ handgun--and first 45--and like it a LOT.

BigRugerLover,

Dial 1-800-588-9500 and ask for Stacey. I couldn't believe the price for a brand new CZ in .40. Probably one of the best deals of the year on a handgun, if not the best deal.

My new 97B is quickly becoming my favorite pistol, which is saying a lot. With some minor and inexpensive modifications, it can easily rival a custom pistol costing hundreds (and hundreds) of dollars more. Just recieved 1,500 .45 bullets for reloading and hope to be ordering another 1,500 in the next couple of months.:p

And the accuracy. . . . man o' man, these CZ's are like lazers.

97B

Schmeky,

Thanks for the info. Just downloaded the 140 page catalog, will call tomorrow.

I'd be happy to know how you modified your 97B if you'd like to share. If so, maybe we should start a new thread?

BigRugerLover,

I have posted the mods on my 97 before, so I'll recap for you:

1) Order the CZ Competition Hammer from Ghost Holster (Angus Hobdell), $58.00
2) Order 2 Wolf mainsprings, a 13 & 14#'er, about $4.00 each
3) Have some quality punches on hand

Simply install the CZ Comp. hammer and start with a 13# mainspring. If you're up to it, you can give your CZ a "jewel" like action by doing the following (but not necessary unless your anal like me):

1) Remove the sear block pin, chuck it up in a dremel and using 2000 grit paper, polish until it looks like glass
2) Polish the sear face with a dremel felt wheel using a super fine jewelers polish until glass like
3) Polish the underside of the comp. hammer hooks with 2000 grit paper

You simply won't believe the results. Takes about 1.5 hours to do everything taking your time. Leave the hammer hooks alone, don't cut or modify, same thing with the sear face. My 97 trigger breaks like a high end 1911 and is just ultra silky smooth. When others feel the action they usually say, " wow".

only 700 CZ-40bs? i don't think so. there were maybe 700 Colt Z-40s made, but the CZ 40b was available aplenty for a short while. then they made 'em in spurts, and right now the last batch was late '07. cdnn had at least a hundred in stock, you guys better not run them dry till i'm ready to buy a few :)

700 or 1,000 is the "official" Colt production figure I have seen on da interwebs. I can't confirm either way.

There are way more than 700 CZ-USA marked CZ-40Bs out there.

You guys are making me think that I need ANOTHER .45;) My 40B has been such a great pistol, its big brother the 97B would be a welcome addition to my collection!

wyncollector,

The only caution I would throw out on a 97 is your hand size. I have medium+ hands, my right hand measures 9" from the tip of my thumb to the tip of my little finger with my fingers stretched as far apart as possible. This may help you, I don't know.

For me, the 97 has one of the best grip ergonomics for me, ever. Fits my hand like the pistol was poured in. I did reduce the width of the stock grips about 1/4" by sanding down the sharp checkering. This helped a bunch.

As a side note, the only bullet my 97 has not fed with a full mag so far is my reload using Hornady XTP 200 gn JHP with a "flat nose" seated at 1.240". Last night I loaded up some Zero brand 185 gn JHP seated very short, under 1.200" and they feed like candy.
