Title. Thinking about getting a CZ 527 in 7.62x39, but don't know what scope would go well with it, and what said scope would cost me. Any advice?

I tried several, and most were too big. The one I really wanted would have been perfect, a Redfield Revolution 2-7. Lacking a scope, I just use the irons, with the rear a modified Marbles adjustable.

Lot of folks report having issues with the bolt handle clearing the rear bell. I'd stick with something with a small form factor like a Weaver classic, leupold, or redfield. I'm partial to the weavers myself.

I put a Leupold x-1 2-7x scope on mine with warne medium rings. It works real well, and I'm happy with the scope. I wanted to keep it light and handy. The Leupold was the lightest 2-7 power scope I could find. The bolt does clear the rear bell, but it's close. I haven't had any trouble working the bolt though. The scope was $200, and the rings were around $40. Good news is that the rifle shoots great with the iron sights too, so you shouldn't feel a rush to get a scope for it if the wallet doesn't allow for it right away.

Here is mine with a cheapo Tasco Bantam. Its a 2.5x fixed magnification I think. I got it because I wanted something small, and was on a budget. After a couple of years, it still works just fine and I have taken a couple of deer with it.

I really want an old school steel tube Weaver to go on there. I think it would look great. I have a lot of frustration with scopes, They are all way too big in my opinion.

I have mounted a Vortex Viper PST (30mm tube) on my CZ527 which is chambered in .223 and I needed to use a set of high Warne rings to get the correct clearance on the objective bell. I have since put a cheek riser on it to bring my head up to the correct height.

I used high Leupold rings on mine and it is still a pretty snug fit.....I do really like the irons on the rifle, but if I could do it again I would just admit to myself that my eyes are just so old and horrid I can't see them like I want to anymore....so darn near everything has glass of some kind on it.

Mine is in 223 and I just love the little rifle.

I had the same rifle. I used a Leupold fxII fixed 4x scope. It seemed to work well for me at all distances. My rifle wasn't a tack driver but I only shot cheap steel ammo in it and the groups were more than acceptable for my uses. I originally had a 3-9x40 on it but after realizing I pretty much never took it off of 3 or 4 I put the 4x on it and never looked back.

Mine shoots horrid....just horrid with the steel ammo....horrid to the point as to thing is there really a point in shooting this.

Now with even the cheapo walmart stuff I am getting very good groups, and my first batch of reloads I am getting golf ball sized groups if I can keep from screwing up....to say I am happy is an understatement.

The CZ 527 is in effect a mini Mauser 98 action. Because of this the bolt throw will be high compared just about any action I can think of. Some scope brands have slimmer ocular bells than others, Leupold comes to mind, I'm sure there are others. So that is the type of scope that will fit a 527 best. A Leupold VX-2 2-7x33 would be about perfect for me.

Another factor could be CZ's proprietary mounting system in which rings attach directly to the receiver instead of a base. I haven't put a lot thought into it but a medium ring on a CZ may sit lower than say a medium ring on a Remington 700 or M70. Which may be why Warne doesn't make low rings for the 527.

If it were me I'd put a Fullfield II 2-7 or a VX-2 2-7 on it. The Burris is about half as expensive as the Leupold.

There is a weird accessory CZ makes/made which was a picatinney rail that clamped on the scope bases. I used it, and had low mount Weaver rings to put a scope on. Looked weird, worked just fine...but looked really odd.

CZ changed the bolt shape. My CZ was one of the last to have the bolt that doesn't give as much clearance, and when I bought the rifle I bought the new bolt knob and switched it out.

I chose the Leupold VX-R. I tried the picatinny mount and finally just with with CZ rings. Should have not stressed and went right to their rings. Here is where I measured clearances by using modeling clay... It was an interesting exercise, but more of a waste of time. ;-)

I appreciate all the responses. If I get the gun, I will probably just get the rifle first and go back for the scope later when I have a bit more gun money. The CZs are awfully nice, but they're not easy on the wallet.

So between medium and high rings for this gun, which one sits the scope better in your guys' experience?

I had to use the high rings in order to have clearance for the bolt, without some modifications to the bolt I'm pretty sure you have to use the high rings. I wish I still had mine. I shot mainly silver bear out of it and some of the Hornady steel cased ammo. It was by no means a bench rifle but at 50-75 yards I could put almost every shot in a group the size of a softball and to me that's good when shooting dirt cheap steel ammo. I once had a mini 30 and the cz shot ten times more accurate. If I remember correctly the chamber is made to accommodate the specs of the imported steel cased ammo as opposed to American brass.

If you use a smaller scope, the medium rings are perfect. The medium rings on my leupold 2-7 work perfectly. I think the high rings would put the scope too high and would necessitate a cheek riser.

As stated previously it is dependent on scope brand. Most Leupold and some others will be fine with mediums, others will need highs.

I would try to use the supplied CZ rings first. If they don't work, then look at other options. CZ rings fight right and are well made.

The 527 I bought came with rings which surprised me . I have 2 527 and both have a Nikon 3-9 on them. I did however have to get a riser for them to make sure I had bolt clearence.

I mounted a Leopold Mark AR Mod 1 1.5x4 on my .223 CZ. I used the factory rings and everything works great with plenty of room for the bolt handle.

Not sure if you're considering a Carbine or American, but here are both (in .223), each wearing one of my very favorite scopes -- Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14x42. Rings are Leupold but the standard CZ rings work well too.
