Other than the frame rail, is there any significant difference between the CZ-75B and the SP-01? Particularly with regard to accuracy?

I don't own an SP-01, but from comparing it to my 75B is looks like the SP-01 has:
-Recurved trigger, giving a shorter trigger reach
-Grooved front and back straps
-Full lengenth guide rod
-Front cocking serrations on the slide
-Same reversable magazine release that the P-01 has
-Extended beaver tail
-Extended slide release (same as P-01)
-Lanyard ready mainspring plug.

Not so much an inherent accuracy issue however the SP-01 is slightly heavier (2.2 v 2.6 pounds) mostly towards the front of the barrel.

In my case I've found this tends to reduce muzzle climb and speed up subsequent target acquisition.

Well, I made the mistake of fondling an SP-01 Tactical at the gunshop today, and it followed me home. Got the polycoat decocker and night sights. The FLGR appears to be plastic? Now to drop a competition hammer and mainspring into it.

I've always liked CZs, but the SP-01's ergonomics can only be described as magical. Even the DA trigger pull isn't that bad, and in dryfiring the sights don't even come off target while pulling the entire DA travel.

I did notice that the SP-01's mags were drop-free while the CZ-75B's did not.

Will the SP-01 take regular CZ mags?

It will take the regular 16 rounders just fine.
Also, that guide rod needs to be flexible to allow assembly with a flatwire recoil spring. That is why it is made of delrin or whatever.

Now you just have to talk yourself out of buying the bayonet.
As someone who looks down on armchair commandos / mall ninjas i failed in this regard. :uhoh:

Spartacus,

Uh-oh:evil:

When you install the comp hammer and a wolf 13# mainspring, gun life as you know it, will change.

Here's a tip that will slick that SP up quicker. When you have the slide assembly off, use some 800 grit wet-or-dry sandpaper, fold the paper until it's about 1/4' wide, put a dab of gun oil on the paper, and polish the firing pin lifter.

When you're putting in the comp hammer, I suggest you polish the sear face. You can use the same 800 grit to VERY lightly clean up the sear face, being careful not to alter the angle, then finish it with some 2000 grit.

I think the stock sights are very good but a fiber optic front sight really helps.

Congratulations.

They're actually considerably different guns.

Fit and finish wise they are the same. Same trigger, same "tightness". The SP01 is not a match version of the 75B.

The SP01 has considerably different ergonomics. They're both very pleasant to shoot, it's just a matter of preference.

They're both good shooters as far as plinking/action type stuff. However the 75B is much more practical if you wanted to carry it. The SP01 is more of a range blaster toy.

hmmmm, after doing some reading, it appears installing a competition hammer is quite a bit more tricky on a decocker-version SP-01 than on a safety version or a safety-version CZ-75. Maybe I'll just leave it to the professionals.

its little trickier..an extra spring to contend with and you need to deal with the decocker side hammer hook.

suggest Angus Hobdell or Matt Mink if you want to tune up that action.

The magazines drop free for the SP01 Tactical only.

This one from Angus's shop comes with the hammer replaced and the trigger job already done.

getting the mags to drop free is just a matter of how the mag brake is set up. takes about 2 minutes to readjust and reassemble the gun to accomplish.

You can also buy a flat magazine brake. If the grips are already off the frame, you can bend a conventional mag brake flat in a matter of seconds. (I would advise proceeding slowly, though.)

There may be some other models to consider, if you are not familiar with the CZ lineup. For example, I own a 75B SA, so I have never had much interest in a SP-01. I would probably also buy an 85 Combat over an SP-01, but that's just my preference.
