i got a cz97b recently and had a lot of problems the first range outing. i had a lot of failures to go into battery and as per input from the members of THR the most likely cause was the bullet being jammed into the lands. The problem was with my 230 gr hytek coated MBC. the coal was 1.270. ( works well in my sig p220and 2 191s)
I compared the plunk test of WWB 230 FMJ in the 97b barrel compared to my reloads. The WWB dropped in and fell out easily. i tried 1.260 but it didnt drop out as easily till i used about 1.250 -1.253.

i shot 100 rds of WWB and close to about 60 to 70 rds of my reloads at 1.250. No problems with feeding and all went to battery. the reloads at 1.250 performed pretty much the same as the 1.270s. I also compared the performance of the 1.250 vs 1.270 in my 1911 and didn't notice a difference. so I'll reload at 1.250 next session. Thanks for the advice!!!

i noticed the gun was slighlty shooting to the right the first time so i drifted the rear sight a bit before the trip and fixed he windage issue. Inserting a full mag is still not smooth and sometimes gets hung up . Will see how that goes.

1st pic 20 rds per target WWB 10 yrds offhand

2nd pic my reloads same distance

3rd pic 25 yrds. there were 6 rounds that didn't make it onto the black. offhand except for one magazine rested.

Nice! Enjoy your CZ97! Mine is great fun to shoot!
Glad you got it working!

i really liked it before i shot it and not so much after the first outing but now i like it better after the last outing but the hiccup with inserting the magazine still bugs me. i hope that gets better.

Mine is headed to CGW for the "E" conversion as I type this. I also have 2 Dan Wesson 1911, the 97 in stock form outshoots them, I can't wait to see what it does hot-rodded.

i looked at the price. I'll shoot it as is for now and maybe I'll get it done later or should you start with a new gun. are you getting adjustable sight for it as well?

I have a transitional CZ 75 and PCR both with cajun triggers, the 75 has a better trigger then most 1911s I bet. After shooting a cajun trigger its really hard not to have them in all your CZ style guns.

This the rear sight am running on the 75.

Sight on 97. Same sight as previous one, just the edges are angled. The thing about the adjustable rears is that they require a fairly tall front sight, stock is 5.5mm, from what I've read guys are having to run 8 to 8.5mm front sights.

Sight on PCR. It's a sight for a 75, but PCR has a weird sight cut out but share the same sight notch.

They all have Dawson precision fiber optic front sights. I had been looking to find a 97 locally for 4-6 years, having lived in Kansas City, Iowa and now Wisconsin, finally got one this spring. Bought it put a few hundred rounds through it, loved it, out shoot my 1911s and my buddies prancing pony and decided to go the "E" package.

I will take that bet. The 97 is a great gun. It however is no 1911. If it was CZ/Dan Wesson would not be putting out the new DWX. https://danwessonfirearms.com/product/dwx/

The nature of the straight shoe on a 1911 trigger makes it better than most guns. I have 3 full Pro Package CZs done at Cajun. A 75B, an Alll Steel P01 and a Shadow 2. They are all excellent guns. They represent great value but they are no 1911. When I compare them to 1911s that cost about the same after the Cajun upgrade the 1911s win. This includes Colts, Dan Wessons etc... and the 1911s win. For me the 97 never sits right in my hand. It does not fit eveyone. "Better" is often subjective and based on the ergonomic interface between a particular shooter and a particular gun.

Fpr me I would take a NIB Classic Colt Govt 70 series O1911C and send it to a 1911 smith of quality and I would get back a gun in the same price range as the CZ97 and it will be a better shooter for me. Send I send the same gun t to someone like Don Williams, Yost, Burton, Harrison, Cogan, C&S, Novak, Garthwaite etc.... I might pay more but I will get a gun superior to what the 97 can be turned into even by the best CZ houses. This does not make it a bad gun it simply makes it what it is.

To the OP most CZs have short throated barrels. If you reloaded to a longer OAL you always need to plunk test that standard round with a CZ barrel in my experience. I load specifically for CZ barrels vs other guns to avoid issues. Good luck I am glad to hear you got it running properly.

A friend of mine had a 97B that I really liked, but it was touchy about ammo. When another friend turned up with a SAR K2 45, I went that way instead. It eats anything I've ever put into it, and the 14+1 capacity is very nice. I still kind of want a 97B though. I stupidly passed on a worked on one about a year ago, it had been NP3'ed and was so pretty with custom grips.
