Forget the Sig idea. To me, the PCR is the dest light weight modl CZ has, but has a decocker, which some don't like. Go for the compact if you want small and steel framed. I have both. Still want to add the P01 sometime.

Then there is the full size. I have a full size 9mm and an SA frame that wears a Kadet.

Each has it's own use and purpose for me.

For a first CZ, "do-all" pistol, it's really hard to beat the PCR. Once you get that, get the Kadet Kit which will fit on a PCR. I actually have mine on my P-01, but to lock the slide back, you have to use the PCR slidestop.

After that the world is wide open with LOTS of CZ potential!

I agree. I still own a bunch and I still like shooting my 75 Compact the most. A second place would go to my 97B.

Yes.
It has the full size bbl and more weight up front, so felt recoil is less, and follow-up shots are faster. This just means the pistol is "easier" to shoot accurately. The mags are 18 rds (19 actually). For bedside or range this is the shooter.
This is the basic pistol in the SPO1 series that's winning the competitions internationally.

2 CZ threads out of 3 have virtually this exact comment in them. Don't get me wrong, I chose (for my first of many) the CZ 75B SA and I love it. But it is NOT a "range/target" gun only for me. Please clarify: do you mean that a single-action-only CZ is not appropriate for anything but the range? Or do you mean that a full-size all-steel CZ75B is too big and heavy to carry, so one might as well get one with the nicest stock trigger?

I realize this might be sacrilege, but I think a CZ-75B SA with a full capacity magazine would be a viable alternative to a full-size 1911 for CCW.

I used to own a SP-01 Tactical. Great gun. I'm gonna buy another one. I like putting regular flush fit mags in them, they look good with that. It was the most accurate pistol I've ever shot, aside from .22 pistols.
 
it is interesting that so many people are recommending the 75b over the SP01. Granted they are basically the same pistol, I like the higher beavertail and rail on the SP01, plus the night sights.

What do people like about the 75b over the SP01? Price and less weight up front?

The rail and night sites did not hold any appeal for me. I've never handled the SP-01, but "improving" the grip geometry of the famously natural-pointing CZ 75B seemed dubious.
 
If you can find one at a good price, Maybe you should check out the CZ Phantom.
I know it is polymer version and all but this gun does feel good and is very accurate.
At least for us it was. Factory or handloads worked well with it. Gun belongs to my brother and the only problem he ever had with it so far was defective factory ammo.

He has the decocker model. Good trigger and what not. Changed the springs and made it a bit better. Just my $0.02

Rail: The rail is nice, but I never carry concealed with a light mounted, so the rail simply takes up space. On a home defense/range gun...yeah, I'd definitely buy one with a rail.

Night Sights: I can get a front tritium dot for any 75. I don't care for dots at the rear. If there are dots, I paint them black or mount a rear sight that is all black.

So naturally the PCR fit my needs. The RAMI probably more so, but holding a 75 compact with a lightweight aluminum frame in my hands just felt right. :)

The carry platform I currently use doesn't have safeties, so that is why I like the decocker models.
 
SP01

I prefer the SP01...the CZ-75b SA is good too...all accurate as heck. The out of the box triggers on all my CZ's have been terrible. Gritty with quite a bit of trigger creep. I really don't understand why they can't improve the factory trigger.

I've modified my SP01 to SA only and did a trigger job, changed out the main spring and filed/sanded down the height of the hammer hooks. It doesn't have any creep now....which wasn't hurting my accuracy...it just annoys the crap out of me.

Regardless....I enjoy fiddling with CZ's. I like a heavy pistol for the range and enjoy modifying them to my specs so it all works.

My favourite CZ was not one they make... it was my 75 Compact frame and mags with my full-size 75B slide and barrel mounted on it. I called it the Czech Hi-Power because it felt, balanced, and pointed just like my Browning... just the addition of a DA trigger pull. :scrutiny:
 
I was going to get a SIG, because I became enamored of the design while I was in Afghanistan. Then I picked up a CZ75BD, and it drove all thoughts of other full-sized semiautos from my mind - I *had* to have a CZ 9mm. I ended up buying a 75B SA, and haven't regretted it for one moment. It is a fantastic pistol, completely reliable, very accurate, feels like it was molded from my hand impressions, and leaves me not wanting for anything.

Except for sometimes it seems a little big for packing around, but I have a S&W 642 that takes care of those (usually clothing induced) issues, and a .357 when I'm more concerned about needing a magnum for hunting or animal control than capacity for ... other kinds of control.

Your observations of the slide/frame combination are different from mine. I found it a bit front and top heavy, preferring the standard Compact configuration. If I got used to it though, I think it would make a very good carry pistol. Guess this is a good case for different strokes for different folks.
 
I've had my 75bd for about ten years. The *only* CZ I would ever trade it for is a 75b polished stainless.

However my 97b has taken over just about all range use. Love it.
 
I own a 75, 75 compact, and an 83. Love them all. I guess I would lean toward the compact. It points almost as well as the 83 and is cheaper to shoot. Really can't go wrong though.
 
My brother has a cz 75BD and a P-01. Both are great but I liked the P-01 so much I bought the bigger .40 cal version the CZ P-06. Love it! Has CZ-Zone trigger job too. Worth ir!
 
Another vote for the CZ75BD!

I had a CZ75 Compact and regretably sold it, a really nice pistol but I was convinced that (for me, at least) a decocker model was a better choice.
 
The PCR is a great carry pistol in my opinion. I actually liked the CZ-40p, though, so a rail (though I have no use for one) is not a deal-breaker.
