Hi all, I dont know what to expect from a forum but was wondering if anyone can help me in regards to my cz kevlar. Ive only used win 45gr jhp White Box in it as I have heard good things about the packs and am mainly after brass for reloading. My problem is I am getting inconsistent groups, running from 1.5 to 2.5moa and there are always fliers. would me having my scope set on max power be a contribution to the bad groups.
Cheers in advance for any help.

If anyone has a CZ kevlar in .223 that I could bounce questions off in regards to the accuracy they got from the box and from which ammo, also in regards to any hand loads they may have experimented with. I have googled a bit and majority of people are loading the 52gr V-max or sierra with various powders. Other questions would be about magazine feed and bolt alignment, it seems that if your not pushing the bolt dead straight then its almost impossible to chamber a round. I have a cz 452 in .17 and the mag feed, chambering and accuracy are outstanding. why is this outfit so different?

Is yours the varmint kevlar rifle? I've heard great reports about them. It could very well be it just doesn't like that particular ammunition. I guess first check the rifle to be sure all is well with it. Check your optics. Lastly try different ammo.

As far as checking the rifle, you might run a dollar bill down the barrel channel between the barrel and the stock to assure there is adequate clearance the entire length to the front of the action. If you feel any constrictions along the way, it could be you simply need to rebed the receiver. Next check your action screws to assure that they are properly torqued. You can get in touch with CZ-USA and talk to the gunsmithing department for the proper torque figures and sequence.

Next the optic. I find that most "accuracy woes" are attributable to improperly bedded and torqued actions, but next in line is the scope mounts, or a parallax issue or other lens issue with the scope. So first make sure the scope mounts are solid. One of the things I do is to buy Warne vertically split rings for CZ's. I think these are the best choice for the dovetail mounting system. If you have other rings, make sure they are properly snugged down, and that alignment is correct (don't want to bend your scope).

I do not know how to tell you to look for a defect in the lenses of your scope. If that is a problem, I guess you get there through eliminating all other possibilities.

Ammo choice is pretty simple: if it won't shoot this ammo, try something else. Mine loved the 55grain Hornady Vmax bullets. I couldn't miss with those.

Lastly of course is shooting skill/technique. There are books on that subject. It takes quite a bit of skill to shoot tiny bughole groups. If you are "learning the ropes" as it were, be patient with yourself and perhaps concentrate on follow through. In essence stay in position long enough to see your bullet strike through your scope. I like to say, make your line of vision a laser beam through that scope. Concentrate on the point on the target where you want the bullet to hit. This at least for bench rest shooting, use the set trigger.

I'm sure others will have suggestions, but that's all I have for you this morning. I have always enjoyed the CZ rifles. They shoot great, are well made, and over time have always come through for me.

Cheers stubbicatt. It is the Kevlar Varmint and is topped with a nightforce 5.5 - 22 x 56. scope seems to be all secure. I just checked the bedding and its free. Like I said Im mainly after a cheap round to shoot but still collect good brass for hand loads. In regards to the mutt behind the butt, although I am a field shooter, mainly for the freezer I usually have no problems with putting one bullet behind the other. When I do go to the range as steady as it seems I am only running off a bipod and not a bag front and rear. Groups were all 5 shots. Still have 300rnds in the safe to use before I start reloading, the way I go through them it shouldnt take that long to use em up. I am assuming that I should be ok accuracy wise when I start hand loading. Apart from magazine issues and bolt alignment I have heard the kevlars shoot the way a cz should, averaging just over .5moa. Thanks for you input.

I'm having similar chambering issues wth a CZ 527 .223 that I got last week. I had a 452 for a couple years (traded to a buddy recently) that chambered "like butta". You could slide the bolt home as slowly and smoothly as you liked. Not the same with this one,at all.
FWIW, my rifle has a 1:12 twist, and has been shooting 55 gr. Lake City surplus just fine, and 62gr. Russian Silver bear even better.
I did run a few rounds of some Hornady 40 grain stuff that was tight and consistent,( I forget what it was exactly, it was given to me, brass cased w/ purple polymer tip.)

The twist rate i 1:9. Ive been reading a fair bit and the 52gr seem to be .6 or so, on average for a 3 shot group. Its got a medium heavy barrel thats heavy towards the chamber and tapers toward the muzzle. Im thinkin and hoping that once a reload is established it will be the tack driver I am after. I hear of guys shooting under moa at 200 yards and not much more at 300. If the rifle and I can achieve anywhere near this I will be stoked. Cheers for the input chaps

Cz kevlar 223

Milkybar: I shoot a CZ 527 223 VARMINTER with the KEVLAR stock with the same barrel as you do. My rifle shoots very well with about any thing, I have tried in it 1in or better at a 100yds. I think the info from stubbicatt is spot on. I under stand you have not started rloading for you rifle yet . I would try some of the premeium types of ammo avaiable. Make sure every thing is tight Mounts ,Rings, and do the daller bill trick to see if your barrel is still floating. You might call CZ (( 913-321-1881 )) in KC Kansas, they are very friendly & are very helpful with sloving any problems you are having with one of there rifles. My rifle is a 1-9 twist and you can find out what you have for sure by just calling CZ. I have shot very few factory loads thru my rifle I use my own reloads. I reload using IMR 4198 and I have had good luck with the 52gr BTHP Match bullets made by Hornaday, Sierra, and Speer. Also the 50 & 55gr V-MAX`S bullets work extremely well thru this rifle. But the best I have found is the 52gr A-MAX from Hornaday. I use 21grs of IMR 4198 for all of these I get about 3100fps in my rifle. I use a 8-32X40 AO 4200 ELITE SCOPE. You have a great rifle and you will solve you problems. If I you have any more questions, I will sure try to help you.

Im not only new to computers but new to forums and I must say that I'm blown away by the response and Info provided by strangers afar. Ken thanks for the reload info, just curious what sort of groups you get from the 52gr A-MAX from Hornady and are they the same as the BTHP match that you spoke of or is there two types of 52gr from Hornady? Also are they 3 or 5 shot groups and do you get any fliers. Thanks again, Jono

Jono: I am new to computers also and can barley turn mine off & on. And my spelling is terrible. YOU asked about bullets Hornady, Speer, Sierra all make a 52gr BTHP Match bullets that I use all 3 of them shoot 1in or less. Hornady also makes a 50 & 55 gr V-MAX bullets Again they will shoot under an 1in, but the Hornady 52gr A-MAX will shoot 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. All with my CZ 527 Kevlar stocked 223 varminter, with a medium heavy 24in barrel. I shoot 3 round groups starting off then after narrowing the a load down I will use 5 round groups. With the 52gr A-MAX my rifle put 10 rounds in an less than an inch using 21 grs of IMR 4198. You asked about flyers if I get any it is usually me not doing my part. My rifle does need a fouling shoot some times befor the group settles down but never more than 1in usually less. I have a shooting pardner that uses H335 with the same bullets I use and his results are as good as mine. And the H335 sure is easier to use thru a power drop. I live in Wichita Ks and am old & retried, but I like to shoot and varmint hunt. If you have any more questions that I could help you with, I would be proud to help you. Keep me posted.

Cheers all. I'm sure that reloads will answer my prayers and thankful not only for everyones help but to find someone with the exact same gun. If when reloading I can get somewhere in the .5moa region I will definately be clickin my heals together. I have written your load down Ken and when I get back from my next hunt will be sure to try it and will let you know how I go.
