Hi guys new in the forum and I'm in Canada. Never owned any semi auto's previously but I would like to get a range only gun for less than 1000$ with good ergonomics, a good trigger and low recoil impulse. Heard both are good guns but heard that the CZ has reliability issues with return springs ect. while the XCAL has very limited part availability here in Canada.

The Xcal is on special for 930$ while the shadow is for 879$ with 3 mags, which should I buy? Anyone have both to compare?

Assuming both fit you well I would recommend definitely getting the SP01 Shadow. I think the TRS reliability issue is overblown about the CZ and CZ custom and Cajun Gun Works make replacements that are supposed to last much longer if that is a concern. I changed out the trigger on my SP01 Shadow and the trigger return spring is fairly easy to replace. Third party support is huge for CZ and not much for the other. Tons of You Tube videos on working on CZ pistols also.

No question. CZ. Much more proven firearm.

That’s a phenomenal price for a CZ Shadow. You ought to jump on it. You won’t be disappointed. I have 3 CZ pistols with round counts in the thousands and have never had any problems.

I have 2 sp-01 shadows and I use to have a standard grandpower k 100. The shadows shoot great for me. The grandpower although a good gun was just ok for me. That is a good price I'm assuming in Canada for the cz. That's the normal price here at CZ Custom when they are in stock. On my 10 year old shadow I broke a TRS this year after thousands of rounds. If you're worried about the spring order an extra and a floating trigger pin from Cajun Gun Works. They are pretty easy to change.

They don't have "reliability issues." They, like all guns, have the parts that are most likely to fail over time, and will need to be replaced by high volume shooters. There are no pistols for which this is not true.

You get to hear about this item with CZ's because so many competitive shooters use CZ's. They run up very high round counts, so that population will learn (and then publicize) what parts give out.

You don't hear about this with Grand Powers because there are so few people running up big round counts on them. They surely have their own failure items... but you're much more likely to have to figure it out for yourself!

Or if you're like 95+% of shooters, you won't shoot the kinds of volumes that makes failures inevitable.

I suggest your local shooting range/rental, to try both these guns yourself and see from there.
Years ago I had a CZ Sp07, shadow, cz tactical sport...all good guns. But I grow fond of the grand power line
    I have the X-calibur and p11

I own quite a few CZ's and have not had reliability issues. My metal CZ75 derivatives are my favorite centerfire semiautomatic pistols.
