Doug; did you simply remove the grips and the slide, and paint the two separate pieces? Did you do some taping off to make sure paint didn't get into the trigger spring or down into the hammer assembly. Basically; to what extent did you break down and prep the gun for lacquer? Thanks... Mike....

Lacquering a CZ82

I masked the ejector opening, the silver sear in front of it and inside the barrel chamber. Also masked outside the firing pin. Only did the "top half" leaving the grips in place. None of my pistols really needed any work including the hammer and trigger areas.

Sounds good. last question. Not one for knowing much about painting a gun; is there a preference and real difference between lacquer and enamel??? Is lacquer a stronger and more durable paint. I'm wondering if it would be decent to strip the entire gun down to steel with a Dremel, then repaint it. Not sure if I would need some sort of primer, or if the lacquer paint would adhere properly to the clean steel. Thanks.

Consider this:whatever paint remains is basically a primer or base coat that you lose if you take it down first to metal. If your gun is like mine its already lacquered. Why risk with enamel? And the black spray lacquer is a beautiful matchup with the bottom half which has a plastic surface. I considered - and quickly dismssed - doing any refinish of the bottom half. It invites screwing up unless you want to do a total and complete breakdown of the gun. I'm happy with the results on all three of my CZ 82's. Good Luck.

Okay I have a question. I have a C&R license. With such, where would you guys say I should buy one of these little beasties?

eh. my CZ-82 has had a couple ftf's and a couple fte's. my tokarev, with many more rounds through it, has experienced none of those. while the cz-82 would be an easier ankle carry piece, the tokarev would be an easier iwb carry piece.

i don't know that i'd declare the cz-82 to be the be all end all of milsurp pistols. but, at $200, i see no reason to NOT own one.

harmon; no gun manufacturer out there is 100% perfect. Every manufacturer; including the likes of SigSauer, Colt, Ruger, etc... has one come out once in a while that has an issue. I have a Walther Clone as well as a "Real" walther. The clone just doesn't do well with American brands of ammunition. I've had problems with speer, winchester, corbon, and others. However; with european ammo such as fiocche and S&B, I couldn't make the damn think jam, ftf, fte, etc... even if I wanted to. At least not in the last 1000+ rounds. Then the original Walther has a particular problem with certain JHP.

When I look at the reliability of a gun, I look at all the reviews of a particular gun. If I see a lot of negatives, I question the manufacturer and that model. If I only see 1 or 2 out of hundreds or more; than I recognize the manufacturer and model as being excellent and that the individual gun is picky; and you have to find out it's personality. I.e. SigSauer is a GREAT manufacturer of guns. Ruger is a GREAT manufacturer of guns. S&W is a great manufacturer of guns. If I come across one of these guns; and others; that has an issue, then it's an individual gun's personality. I simply have to get to know her. Just like cars have their own individual personality. On the other hand, Bryco/Jennings/Jimenez makes crappy guns. If my life depending on it, I also wouldn't trust a Rossi. And the same for others. Not that they don't have some excellent individual pistols that come out; just too many negatives as a percentage.

The military CZ (Meaning guns like the CZ-82 and CZ-52 are fantastic weapons. Can the individual gun have an issue? Definitely. So can a gun made by any manufacturer. But there is no doubt that when it comes to military surplus type handguns, the CZ-82 is one of the best out there. I also include the tokarev and Mosin as being others. While I love the FEG/Hungarians and others like the polish, chinese, and other countries that have military surplus; the CZ-82 is definitely on the top of the short list.

I have yet to find something my 82s wont digest faithfully, but I did take some extra care to clean all the excess cosmoline out of the works too. Some come as a gummed up mess, harmon rabb and it is not all in areas visible.
