I REALLY like my 8" Dan Wesson with Zebra wood grips! It shoots fantastic!

I would like to find a 4" barrel some day...

Sounds like you got a nice little S&W, enjoy!

Sure to ruffle a few feathers here but I happen to have a S&W 617 and a Taurus Tracker .22 both 6” barrels. The finish on the Smith is slightly better but the Taurus I have has a vastly smother trigger. Ever since I picked up the Taurus last year the Smith is doing nothing but taking up space in the safe.

It's true; at first I really question it myself and then used to bring both out for others to use and evaluate. Everyone that compared the two agreed the Taurus was a better shooter due to a smoother trigger.

I forgot to mention both revolvers have never been opened up and are the way they came from the factory.

Well I will let you know how the Smith is. My Taurus wasn't a bad gun but not like what they are designed after. I also got my two pistols sold so everything is good in the world till I decide to buy another gun.

I had a Taurus 94 in Stainless Steel. The dang gun started misfiring on me after the first cylinder full, even WITH that stiff DA trigger. Took the sideplate off, and found metal shavings in the action. Blew them out with compressed air, and re-oiled.
It worked for a bit, but then the action started binding. Turns out there were a lot more shavings in there that I didn't get, or new shavings appeared.

Sent it to Taurus, they fixed. I sold to someone else.

Taurus revolvers are junk. Save your money and get a Smith.

Seafarer12, I'm sure you will like your Mod 617. A .22 revolver is my favorite handgun to shoot. I have other centerfire revolvers but the .22 is my favorite, and my wife's. My first revolver was a H&R Mod 999 9-shot break-top. I think I bought it new for $60 in 1970. Then I decided I wanted better quality and sprung for a new S&W Mod 17 6in. for $135 in 1975. I still have it, but I like stainless so I got a M617-6 6in. 10-shot in 2002 for around $500. Both guns seem to have the same fine accuracy. I had a .500 target trigger installed on the M17 and the action smoothed a bit. I had Clark Custom Guns do an action job on my M617 and it's almost as good as a centerfire Performance Center action. Also it's never had a FTF due to a light hammer fall. Clark's guaranteed the work and it's a pleasure to shoot. The Smiths are worth the extra cost IMO for a lifetime of fun shooting with the family.

Get the 617 and you won't look back! Lots of little chambers to clean after a day of fun, though. And lead buildup around the forcing cone on the topstrap. Just spray some solvent, come back a few hours later, and it wipes away.
