I woke up this morning all cheery and bright
On this anniversary of the D-day fight
Expecting a present soon in front of my door
Twidling my ammo, should have gotten more
But here was the Fed Ex man to my delight
A Carbine, Garand, to celebrate this day right!

Man I could hardly sleep last night! I almost forgot today was D-Day! I didn't even realize it when I was at the CMP that I would be getting my rifles today!

They didn't have any service grade Garand's, but I got the next best thing. The Garand is a Springfield with only two parts mismatched. I hope I can run those down. It also needs a new part on the barrel that is a high hump (I can't remember the name of it). The gas cylinder needs paint and the stock has character, but those are the only two reasons I can see that kept it from the service grade. There was only one other Garand left that didn't have a shot out barrel in the field and rack grades. So it was slim pickins in the North Store.

The carbine is a National Postal Meter production with an Underwood barrel (has the flaming cannonball). The bore is bright and shiny with strong rifleing. The muzzle measures a 1. It has a really nice stock with very few nicks or blemishs. It is an Italian return, of course. Another guy and I spent a long time in there picking out the best ones. I will post a range report soon!!

I originally was only going to buy the Garand, but I really couldn't help myself from the Carbine once I started fondling them. I have always wanted one of each, but they were too expensive (specifically Garands) for me. Well maybe the ones I always came across were.

God Bless the men that stormed those beaches so many years ago and all of the rest who have served, are serving, and will serve in the future.

I was wondering if you guys new where I could order Garand parts by manufacturer (specifically Springfield). I've only got two on mine that make it not correct. Is there any chance that I can find what I need? Or is it a needle in a haystack deal?

Very nice.

I believe the "high hump" part you are referring to on the Garand is the gas cylinder lock.
