Long story short, I don't like the grips on my Daisy. I shot it for the 4th time today, and have decided the grips are a little to fat for my hands. FYI my other two pistols are a 1911 and a Ruger 22/45. As you know, both have relatively thin grips that I have become used to. The Daisy's are different, with the thumb rest and all, and I feel the right side grip is too fat causing me to not have as much control as I'd like.

I did a Google search, and couldn't find any right handed replacement grips other than going full custom. The existing grips are thin plastic, so sanding them down is not an option.

So far I am thinking of trying to fabricate a thinner right side grip from a 1 x 4 white pine board. I know that is not impossible, but am still open to other (reasonably priced) options. Maybe I'd be better off buying some left handed grips and replacing the left, thumb rest side. Any ideas?

Hey,

I did what you suggested at the end. I wanted to be able to use the 747 with either hand. I ordered a "left-handed" set of grips, then I used the smaller, non-"thumb-rest" grips on both sides of the 747.

In other words, I used the flat, right-side grip from the right-handed grips, and the flat, left-side grip from the left-handed grips.

This leaves a grip that is much more like a traditional pistol, without the target-style thumb-rest. The 747 is then ambidextrous, and the grips are somewhat thinner.

I hope this helps! :)

Thank you for your post. Your comment about the available left handed set of grips is quiet interesting since they are available and priced right. I received a model 717 for Christmas last year and I have truly enjoyed it, but with the thumb rest ,shooting is pretty much limited to right hand only.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, that thumb rest is totally different from any other pistols I have shot. I see them a lot on target pistols. Someone explained to me why they are an advantage, but I forgot what he said. What is the deal with those anyway:confused:

Anyway, I went ahead with plan A and made a thinner right hand grip out of a piece of 1/2 inch plywood today. Its pretty crude but it feels 100% better. We shoot on Wednesdays, so I'll give her a try and see if it is better for me. If so, I might try and sand it smoother and give it a coat of paint.
